That must have been a long filming! The Top 21 show that I went too took a bit over 2 hours to film the episode with 7 performers (on top of that having to be there an hour earlier).
I am glad they are breaking it up into 2 performance episodes though. 12 in an episode these days is just too much and would go too long. Seven are better off having it air that extra night.
Western Australians can presumably watch on 7plus as soon as it airs in the eastern states? May need a VPN if it is Geo locked which is stupid. That approach seems to be changing with a lot of ABC’s shows put on ABC iView as soon as it is scheduled to start. The commercials should follow suit. It amazes me how ahead the ABC is with this stuff.
Yes, bvod (at least commercial or certainly 7Plus and 9Now) are geoblocked per metro market, so uploads for vod after broadcast as therefore per market too. It’s also done so live streams of channels replicates market broadcast, which as we know are often vastly different, especially Perth.
It’s stupid because anyone can view the Sydney live stream if they have the direct URL which isn’t difficult to obtain with a bit of Googling. If they have some stupid clause in the contract with advertisers that the show must be broadcast first on normal TV before the VOD is released than that is an outdated concept and needs to be phased out in future agreements.
Watched first ep of this season last night. It’s like a different show to last year… it’s so much better. All aspects seem to be working…judges, contestants, editing. Did they change producers or something???
Replacing American judges with Marcia has put Idol back where it should be. Two original judges and Amy Shark for new blood has just worked so well. I definitely would not want to see Mark again though.
The talent is much stronger this year too. It seems like there was a lot more scouting online and particularly in regional areas to find unearthed talent rather than rely super heavily on who turned up.
I was a bit disappointed with last night’s first Top 12 show though despite a lot of them being great singers up until now. Maybe “Party” was not the best theme for week 1 as it undid a few people.
Isn’t Mark a practicing lawyer these days? If so, i highly doubt he will return. For Dicko, apart from appearing on I’m a Celebrity last year, he hasn’t been much on air in recent years. Enjoying his “time off”?
I actually enjoy the current three judges. Glad Marcia is back. She and Kyle seem to get along well, and Amy Sharks brings the level down, in a nice way.
Id rather have Ricki-Lee host solely. Scott doesn’t add that much.
Some more food for thought - was Axle Whitehead ever considered for the hosting role?
Since Idol, he’s hosted Video Hits on Ten, then after crossing to Seven he narrated The World’s Strictest Parents (who could forget that show?) then hosted the short-lived game show The Wall from Poland, in addition to his acting role on Home and Away.
Scott is just good for eye candy for the women and gays watching. But Axel would have been a good choice. At least like Ricki he has some experience performing.
I watched the show for the first time this season and having Marcia back as a judge is a great improvement overall to Idol ,Kyle and Amy are great judges too.I wasn’t a big fan of Meghan last season ,Harry CJ was ok ,but they’re both American .Marcia is American born but has been an Aussie for over 50 years, she’s ageless too .,doesn’t look 70 .The contestants are better too ,most of them anyway .
He was average on the first iteration (apart from the touchdowns) and in recent years literally made a clown of himself on another Seven show. Plus he and Dicko are way past their use-by-dates so no thanks.
I still don’t get why they are making the bottom 2 sing again when that singing doesn’t affect who goes home. It feels like stretching the show so it reaches the 60-70mins.
