Australian Idol

596k for winner announced & 573k for the show.

If that was what the show had averaged mid 500’s then I think it could be renewed but averaging like 440k probably isn’t good enough to comeback next year

I happened to hear the news on KIIS at midday and they focussed on him stumbling woth his winning song and played the bit where he forgot the words. Not the way you want your win to be remembered. It makes the whole show look amateurish.

If only they had more practice with live shows…

I read this thread so I already knew who won
I didn’t see the finale, as I wasn’t home last night, forgot to set my PVR before I went away.Watching it live drives me nuts with all the ads. I could watch it on Seven plus, again too many ads.
Josh will still have a future in the music business,Phoebe too,Congrats to Royston

“I tried to sing my song and then there were technical difficulties with that.

“Apparently the house sound was out, so none of the judges or the live audience could hear anything.”

Royston said the judges were all signalling for him to stop his performance - assuming that those at home also could not hear him.

“I was like, ‘Oh am I doing something wrong?’ so I put my ear (plug) out and the was no sound coming out so I needed to stop.”

According to the Daily Fail the performance was " shambolic" and “gaffe-plagued”.

After not being home to watch the finale, I went on Apple Music to find and hear the song but couldn’t, tried again tonight and still couldn’t so looked on Spotify and searching for Royston Sagigi-Baira didn’t come up but by searching for Royston - there is a Royston Noell and I thought the picture on the single released last year looked similar, and then saw Invincible by Royston Noell.

Does anyone have a clue what is happening with his name?

I tried to find it at lunch today too with no success. No wonder.

I wonder how Royston’s indigenous community feels about him saying the whole season how he wanted to bring awareness to the indigenous community and how proud he was to be a queer indigenous man, only to change his name to a more English sounding name when he wins and officially releases his music.

Noell has been his stage name for some time, well before he was on Idol.

I still feel it’s disingenuous though.

If he’s a proud indigenous man like he keeps saying he is then he should use his real name.

When can I go into Sanity a buy the single?

Thanks, was it ever mentioned on the show that he performs as Royston Noell when they used his full name multiple times an episode.

Nope.

Royston Noell is also his Instagram handle.

Then why use his real name on the show?

Sounds like a deliberate tactic to me.

Was up to No.3 yesterday and still at No.4 today.

That is on the iTunes sales chart which only accounts for 1% of the music chart now, last I saw you needed less than 100 sales to make the Top 10 of that. The song hasn’t reached the daily charts of Spotify or Apple Music streaming charts which is a shame.

But not unexpected.
