AM and FM DX

Could I ask that if you’re connecting to the TEF servers, that you don’t just leave it open unattended? This Melbourne Telstra IP address has been sitting active on both the Sydney North and South servers for two hours now and it blocks the automatic scanning/logging of tropo/Es and also discourages others from tuning/DXing. When I checked, it was just left sitting on 87.5 MHz for an extended period, which is waste during Es season.

I had New Zealand on 90.0, 91.6 and 92.4 in Brisbane. Haven’t had time to work out the exact source yet.

Any ideas where this Triple J on 95.5 was coming from? Here’s an audio recording. It was mixing with ABC Mid North Coast a bit:

It didn’t match the local Triple Js, so I assume it’s from QLD (due to the time zone offset). It was also skipping a bit. (e.g. at 00:38). I couldn’t find a listing for Triple J on the ACMA’s listings.

Edit: I checked the Triple J QLD feed online and it matches.

I have to wonder if its coming from a remote camp or something like that which hasn’t registered themselves with the ACMA?

Getting this distored station on 90.3 also just playing music with no IDs. Not sure if it’s tropo/Es or a pirate (or a pirate received over Es):

Sounds like the type of music the 89.5 pirate would play. Also strongest on the NW antenna, as with the 89.5 pirate.

Found an archive in the 2015 ACMA radio list as:

4JJJ Burton Coal Mine Retransmission M OD 50 -21 36 49 148 10 53 1957278
Certainly in the Es zone.

Interesting. I wonder if they’re broadcasting unlicensed now or it’s just dropped off the ACMA’s registers accidentally.

There is a theory that the ACMA purposely omits entries in order to attempt to prevent copyright of its lists.

But they put their content out there for free under a Creative Commons licence: https://www.acma.gov.au/copyright-notice

According to the licence link on that page:

There is/were two other frequencies from there.

Appears from Google Earth imagery the main mine pit has been unused for several years, but the buildings site looks to be in use & maybe still processing coal? Perhaps they forgot to switch off the tx(s)? :person_shrugging:

Whoops, my sincere apologies. Totally forgot about that.

Had logged on to cap the Bundy stations that were coming in via tropo at the time (on both servers) whilst reading this thread given the excitement surrounding the reception of these stations into NSW, and as soon as @AustraliaRadio232 posted here that Brisbane was coming into Melbourne I had to quickly grab my radio, go outside and see if I could pick anything up from Brissy, the first frequency that came to mind was 97.3 FM, but to no avail. No Es from Brisbane on my radio.

As for the 87.5 FM preset, I never set it to that. When I left it there (in the background) it was on 93.1 FM (for Triple M Bundy, on the Southwest server at least since at the time the North one was locked).

Totally forgot the tabs were still open, only having just seen this post. Have closed them now so it should be all good again. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. :slightly_smiling_face:

Any thoughts on what this might be on 92.7? Didn’t seem to match with Mix FM Sunshine Coast or Hit Mackay.

It was playing SexyBack by Justin Timberlake just before the ad break. Maybe it’s just a more run-of-the-mill tropo from Zoo FM Dubbo.
