I think I briefly heard the words “Zoo FM” in there, but I could be mishearing things. SexyBack is definitely something Hit would play which makes it harder to place.
Plus the NZ and New Caledonia ones too on top of this. Probably one of the biggest E skip events in my recent memory.
I caught some nice southern state logs from one of the Qld servers during the mid afternoon.
Stations heard included: Flow FM 99.3 Streaky Bay, Renmark region-SA, 90.5 Mt.Gambier, 88.9 Mixx FM Hamilton & 90.7 Hot FM Ouyen, most with RDS & Flow FM 97.7 was there at weak levels too.
Several RDS updates ensued ![]()
Were you able to finally get a full RT off 90.7 HOT FM Ouyen? As I never was able to get it to work even on subsequent visits to Ouyen.
Yes & I must thank you for your initial detective work for the RDS PS of this station, which helped me positively ID this TX.
The RDS RT has been updated in the RDS List.
The RDS RT is: Your home of The Best Music 90.7 HOTFM
It’s using RDS Groups 0A & 2A too. And confirmed DI of 9.
At least my TEF got some of the RT that turned out to be correct ![]()
Thanks for basically confirming what I found down there
I like how they’ve localised the RDS PS and RT for the Wentworth, Ouyen and Robinvale relays. Noice.
It does help identifying them apart, but the PI situation is a bit challenging as both Ouyen and Robinvale are the same, as are Wentworth and Mildura (main TX). At the end of the day as long as something differs it isn’t a big deal.
Did you happen to also get any screenshots of the reception from Sydney by any chance? I was at work during the Es today, unfortunately.
Only a few from your server unfortunately.
- Hit 93.5 Gladstone (unfortunately in shows the rx in use dialogue box), in any case pix of that stn from Melbourne server further above. With RDS
- 102.3 ABC Classic Canberra with RDS
- 100.7 Rocky with horrid Dynamic PS
I’m happy to edit & post any of the above that you want, here if you wish.
No pix from my own rx & limited listening unfortunately.
Sure. 1 and 3 would be interesting to see. RDS decode on ABC Classic from Canberra is pretty common.
Kon’nichiwa Nippon!
A particularly good effort given the Darwin TXs are not very elevated.
Extremely impressive considering that TEP DX is very rare in the FM band. I remember reading an article that Todd Emslie had written on his Geocities website about this phenomenon back in the early 2000s, though this trip mainly covered ~50mhz TV with some lower parts of the FM band mentioned. (Darwin, Australia TV FM DXpedition)
Yes, Todd and Tony’s 2001 trip to Darwin was illuminating and inspired me to take up the hobby (even though I’m far south of the TEP zone). Certain Japanese DXers receive Northern Territory FM on a semi regular basis via TEP; they’ve even had Townsville on a couple of occasions. Look up ‘59D’ on YouTube; they get Nhulunbuy and Gali’winku FM quite often as they are near due south of the rx location in Japan.
Darwin seems to be a magical place for FM DXing. I would love to go for a holiday there. I am tempted to ask one of the amateur radio clubs up there if they’d be willing to host an FM/AMDX web server node, if I fully paid for and shipped all the equipment to them (yagi, TEF, cables, Computer ect). In my mind, it would certainly be worth the cost, just need to find the right person to host it.
Way back when there was a guy who hosted a node at Broome on GlobalTuners. Even with a very poor setup (dodgy discone) and images across the dial, Chinese FM via TEP was logged. A half decent TEF setup in Darwin, Broome, Weipa or Exmouth would clean up by comparison.
