AM and FM DX

That would have to be Roccy 93.9 in Young, owned and operated by Broadcast Operations Group, who also owns NEW FM Newcastle. I actually heard this sweeper on NEW FM Newcastle on your TVCL2 webserver during Tropo last year when the signal was strong into Sydney.

Because of Wagga Wagga tropo into Sydney last night, as Young tends to lean more towards Wagga Wagga than to Orange, that would be the reason why you ended up receiving this station.

MIddle Brother strong here as well. Also received MMM Kempsey on 106.7 at good level (instead of Rebel Childers), opening seems to be getting stronger.

Edit - now lost a lost of NSW stations to Rockhampton.

With Triple J 101.1 off the air, I thought to try some normally blocked DXing. Sadly nothing, not even a sausage. This will also go off on the 29th as well.

Earlier today. Indoors with Hobart (600km) at full strength RDS.

Explains why I had it strong at Hotham. I only had ABCFM at RDS level though reception was fairly good from 7HO, Vision and JJJ.

Nice catch! What time was that at? I didn’t see anything on my webserver logs.

Looking at FMLIST, it started rolling in around 1700 UTC. So from 4am, for a few hours.

Just double checked and my auto log seemed to only be working when someone was connected to my server. 3HA and Coast FM were logged at 00:29 but as soon as the user left, I got no other logs all night (no one else was on all night either). I’ll have to investigate what the issue was.

Sometimes when it is a planned outage the TX stays on but instead of program there will be test tones, as BAI does annual audio testing to ensure the TX meets spec

It’d be nice to get more of the TEF servers auto-logging to FMList and to be able to see DX propagation nationwide. Only Sydney, Mildura and Melbourne have auto-logging on at the moment, it seems.

It’s too bad I don’t have my NZ-facing TEF server up yet – waiting on SMA to F-type connectors to arrive in the mail so that I can connect the aerial to the TEF.

On another note, a big storm rolled through Sydney this evening. It was a bit nerve-wracking watching the DX antennas wobbling about .

Mackay received tonight in Brisbane.

2LT 101.1 and Kiss 99.5 in Katoomba are off-air again (presumably due to the storms?) for those who want to try DXing on those frequencies.

TCBL on 107.9 is back though :.

Hopefully that didn’t affect Wollongong TV reception.

Also of course the setup of your FM-DX antennas, I’m really hoping they don’t get knocked down by anymore bad weather, I mean, you only just got them installed recently and now this?

And it’s not looking like good news for the next 2 days, with a chance of thunderstorms forecast to last in Sydney until this Saturday.

I’m just hoping that all your FM-DX antennas and the Wollongong UHF antenna will survive this stormy weather event. Fingers crossed.

The strongest signal on the TVCL West/South TEF servers. Just look at how strong that signal is…

And here’s what that TCBL was broadcasting…

Good to know, though this time the TX was definitely off as there was no carrier at all. Didn’t manage to catch any test tones either

With the cooler overnight temps bought in some really good temperature inversions. Aside from the usual suspects, I finally got the ABCs from Ballarat, with Classic FM 105.5 getting CCI from Triple J Adelaide. Riverina ABCs were also audible for a little while as well but faded away as the sun rose in the sky.

On the AM side, some small bought in 1071 Gold Central Victoria among side the splatter of 1062 ABC Riverland, along with 1197 5RPH Adelaide, 1251 2DU Dubbo and 1278 Magic which all faded out quite quickly. Cruise 1323 Adelaide came in strong and can quite often be received here permanently in the depths of winter.

o/c (no audio). This appears to happen any time there’s a decent storm in the area.

When I posted, they were completely off-air. Not sure at what time they came back with an open carrier.

Coast FM 96.3 appears to have been off air since late last night to about 7:30 this morning based off my logs
