Did the old 3KW DA SEQ10 get into Brisbane well back in its time?

In regards to Hot 91.1 reception into Brisbane, it was received so well at North Quay that I could still receive it in the basement car park of my hotel on the car radio.

Yes - I have some recordings. Reception was subject to troppo and co-channelling with DDQ but could be watchable. This was with an 8 (?) element band III antenna

That was similar reception to what my relatives received back in the 80’s at their old house at Buddina. It was off the back of a VHF antenna pointing towards Brisbane.

Was the ABC also rebroadcast on VHF from Dulong back then or did it only come online after UHF transmissions started from Dulong and Bald Knobb?

ABC was on 5a (same specs) - input from Gympie Ch 4

Thanks, when did Bald Knobb start up was it from the beginning of Aggregation?

Not sure but I recall the Brisbane relays started appearing at that time QTQ was the first IIRC.

I was lucky to be on holidays on the Sunshine Coast for two major events, the Start of Aggregation on Dec 31st 1990, and the fm Conversion of 4SS to Mix 92.7 on the 1st Jan 1995.

When Aggregation took place my relatives lost the local broadcasts as their combo antenna was pointing towards Brisbane. I think initially it was Dulong Lookout only before Bald Knob went to air.

Great video! Loved the news set!

Loved that. I grew up in Maryborough so SEQ was a big part of it. The main studio was in Maryborough until at least aggregation. Melissa Davis (the local newsreader) was an icon of Maryborough and Wide Bay. I even did work experience at the station in 1984 and stayed back one night to watch her read the news and she was absolutely lovely.

From the time SEQ10 at Dulong Lookout started up(about 1985?), the studio at Dean St Maryborough’s days were numbered - SEQ quickly found their advertising sales grew exponentially from the underserved Sunshine Coast territory and they relocated the lot to Maroochydore.

Dean St sounded like it was fairly cheap and cheerful and I was surprised to find they didn’t have an outgoing Telecom bearer connected to the studio when I had to arrange some footage to be sent by them. Their camo had to drive to the nearby Maryborough Telephone Exchange and plug his Betacam into an external wallbox to feed it out.

SEQ10 Dulong used to get into Brisbane well particularly at places like Wavell Heights where it was off the back of antenna’s pointed at Mt Coot-tha. The old Band 3 panels were still on the Dulong tower last time I drove past too.

Dick Elmer’s furniture commercials were legendary in the TV industry for many years from the old wide Bay TV and my main recollection of that era.

I thought you could only use devices while on an aircraft that can be put into flight mode, like an iPhone, tablet, etc

Yes, if they transmit. No problems with receive only.

They could potentially interfere with onboard airplane radio communication systems though… albeit a low risk one.

The flight attendants had no problem with me listening to it during takeoff and landing, and I was right upfront in row 4 on the Jetstar flight.

Which is far too short for VHF 0 yet is what happened after DDTV Ltd bought TVQ and swapped their DDQ 10 for 0.

All ABC FMs off the air on the Sunshine Coast. Might worth checking out or logging into to a local server.

That’s interesting, nothing about an outage on the ABC Reception page.

Has there been any bad weather in SEQ or anything that might be a possible cause?

Nothing I can think of. Also impacting TV

94.5 News Radio from Gympie received well in my location (with the SC Coast co-channel off air). 94.5 local from NSW also ok with antenna to south.
