AM and FM DX

General low level enhancement form many directions now. Rockhampton ANC from the north. Mt Dowe and Coffs at higher than usual levels from south.

In Dubbo for a couple of nights.

The TEF pulling in weak to fair ABC signals from Griffith, SW Slopes, Upper Namoi, Newcastle, Sydney and Wollongong. Also had weak commercials from 2DAY and MMM Sydney and NEW FM Newcastle. SW and NW Slopes the best with clear mono and scratchy stereo on Classic and JJJ.

Caught in the car park out the back of Club Dubbo, which is a bit more elevated on the west side of town.

Still no new ABCs from Buninyong Hill, just 2WPR on 95.9 which still has a stereo pilot, but 107.1 from Mt Cenn Crauich is mono only.

One DX observation from my trip out to the Central West.

Didn’t hear a single SBS self help station still on air. I passed through seven towns that were licensed for one (Merriwa, Dubbo, Narromine, Gilgandra, Gulgong, Mudgee and Lithgow) - all gone now.

I think Batlow is the only one i know of in NSW still on air? Cobar had TWO back in 2020, not sure if they are still on air.

Parkes was running SBS Chill for many years on 101.3; I think that one is now off also. Nyngan also had it apparently (103.9). Port Macquarie still runs it on 107.7.

Have any of the licences lapsed?
I wonder what the logic is behind paying for a radio licence if there’s no motivation to broadcast or maintain a service. :man_shrugging:

Ah yes, I forgot about Port… That was still on a couple of months ago.

I guess local councils overestimated the level of interest… Particularly now when you can stream your preferred language on demand rather than wait for it to be on SBS.

SBS Cooma (106.5) was on silent carrier/broadcasting 10BOLD for years, much to the chagrin of a prominent DXer down there. Thankfully it’s now off.

Is there really such a thing? I thought we all just always just lurked in the background.

Very strong Wide Bay signals today in Brisbane up to Band III.

Interesting how Rebel and Breeze Childers come in stronger than 101.9 hit and 103.5 MMM.

What is the station received on 93.5? Not Gladstone? 95.1 its twin not received. Though Rocky ABCs received but not commercials.

Interesting. I note from your video that:-

  1. BAY FM has reverted back to their former PI code of 4064, was 1003 not so long ago.
    and
  2. The nice display of Long PS from; The Breeze WB.

FM Bandscan at Pt Lookout with the trusty ol TinySA. Normal telescopic antenna used as all my big telescopic antennas broke so results not as good as I hoped. Temperature was 5°.

@dxnerd who is this and what can we do to have them add to the contributions here?

Thank you @Rob2144, amazing video, excellent effort.

I’ve been at Howells Knob and received Brisbane and Gold Coast digital radio easily with handheld Sony model, from inside the car.

Is this near the section of the main road where you can receive Mt Coot-tha signals reliably?

@dxnerd, was that your suggestion? Was a while ago.

Nah, this is quite a distance away by road. I know the spot you’re referring to and I’ve nicknamed it “Queensland Hill”. Its about 10km west of Dorrigo.
