Ah yes, the difference in polarity would help a lot. Its pretty hilly south of Forresters Beach as well, so the terrain would provide some protection too.
What conditions are required for GEM FM Inverell to be audible in Brisbane?
Any ideas @TV.Cynic, @tamago_otoko & more?
Similar conditions tonight with up to Mackay (commercial ABC) in RDS level signals incl low power Miriam Vale plus Banana. 91.3 Yeppoon with no programming .
4ZZZ with a blank carrier and low bandwidth signal - strength is off the scale - the thin line on the far right
Not uncommon with inland troppo along with PNN on 93.5
Seems to be more common in QLD than in NSW at this time of year anyway. In my experience, inland tropo doesnât usually happen much here until after the summer solstice.
The tropo weâve had so far has been pretty coastal.
Townsville booming in this morning at RDS levels. Rocky and Mackay at big levels as well.
Update: Classic FM Cairns 105.9 now at stereo levels. Continuing for over an hour.
Being off work this week after having wisdom teeth removed, my current occupation full time dxer!!
With FBI off air still due to the power outage early this morning has presented a very rare dx opportunity.
I have received 94.5 2EC Bega, very brief, very weak, and fleeting reception near he M7 at Acacia Gardens on the car radio.
As Tropo conditions have normalised, reception was most likely Aircraft Scatter. Anyway a very rare dx catch on a blocked Sydney frequency.
Well done on getting 2EC Bega in Sydney. Obviously itâs very rare to have any of the Sydney high powered FMs off air. The last time this occurred was in 2008 (!) with a widespread power outage in the Sydney CBD that knocked out 2MBS as well as Koori Radio. I received Power 102.5 quite well from Oatley for about 10 minutes, then power was promptly restored. The signal was mainly via As on that occasion as well.
In all my time in Sydney I never caught Artarmon/Gore Hill off air, so it may not happen again in your lifetime! The other occasion I can recall was 2OOO FM off air from North Sydney; I managed to hear 2PNN Lismore very weakly with BBC content.
Yes very well spotted and rare opportunity. Lismore used to fade up on 95.3 too before Vega started and after 2ICE (then Kiss) had vacated 95.3.
The connections at Wentworth Falls are out, putting CADA to emergency tape and Move and 2LT to dead air.
Edit: The CADA backup tape is 20mins long? Itâs started to repeat now, Iâm surprised that itâs not longer, at least an hour or more.
Gave me an opportunity to program notch filters for the main carrier & 19kHz offset carriers on the SDR software for 99.5 & 101.1MHz - for future dx opportunities
Have been getting a lot of artefacts plus overload and other reception issues on my FM set up for signals from the north. Decided to swap out the amplifier with a new one 10MM-UA30PDF as it had previously been working well. Not sure if there has been any change in design since the original amp was installed. I have the identical system facing south and that isnât having the issues. Itâs too windy today to made the change though.
A new country station in Mono has popped up on 87.8 around Penrith, No IDs as of yet, but its not River FM and Noise FM from Richmond is also still on air, its also not 2KA as the playout is different.
Yeah I noticed 87.8 was vacant in Penrith as I passed through last month. Wasnât there a dance music station on there a while back? 88.0 is now dominated by the God Squad in Western Sydney. A pity Air FM (80s) seemingly died with Craig Allen.
I am so out of the loop with whatâs happening with the Sydney LPONs. Is Raw FM on the Northern Beaches still going? What about Bondi FM 88?
I tried 87.8, but Radio Austral dominates. Tried the SDRâs FM CoCh canceller, but no luck, Iâm too far away.
There is a possibility that it is another new River FM outlet, that hasnât yet been linked up to the studio via a STL & just being fed with its own program for the interim?
Sure is. Both outlets, or was some weeks ago.
I was trying for that when some few suburbs away on at least a few of occasions over past year or two and nothing heard. Iâm also sure I was on Campbell Pde, Bondi Beach a couple of years ago & I tried for it then, but nothing heard on the frequency.
Are there any recommendations for an in-line FM adjustable attenuator?
Brief stint of early evening FM DX on the Sydney coast this evening.
Good reception of 103.9 Power FM, 104.7 2SEA & 105.5 2EC - Eden,NSW.
Brief full RDS decode of 103.9MHz, note that the PS is âPower FMâ (ex Power-FM)
RDS decode on 104.7 was also achieved briefly, but didnât show or decode the PS. Its
RT was just displaying 2sea.
Full RDS decode of 105.5 2EC was accomplished over the full (but brief) listening period.
ABC outlet on 103.5 Mt.Wandera was there, but not the commercial or community outlets from same site.
92.7 Bay & Basin was in at good strength
The Port Stephens outlets were there & also 101.5 2GLA & Taree ABC outlets.
Propagation was definitely as per the forecasted AUS Hepburn Maps.
No FM BCB enhancement inland at all, but all on the costal fringe. Was very windy on the coast.
Let me guess- you were around the Coogee or Maroubra area?
That tropo path to the south is very consistent and predictable: 2BAB and Eden are always enhanced together. This can also be a precursor to NZ tropo but not this time.
I guess this is the place for this? Move it if you need to:
Poorly earthed too perhaps? Fence shouldnât be arcing.
Went for a drive to Dural and Kurrajong Heights today whilst down in Sydney.
Most notable at Dural was reception of all Orange ABCs except News, plus both commercials, community stations on 103.5 and 107.5 plus Sky Racing 106.7. No RDS on any of them though.
Kurrajong Heights was quite interesting. At the Rotary Lookout which has a good take off to the north east and south east, I heard the following
-
Wollongong stations dominated on 93.3, 94.1, 105.3 and 106.9, with RDS on 2VOX.
Power 94.9 was also received with RDS and 91.7 2ST but no RDS. 102.9 was 2ST but no RDS. -
To the north, I got Middle Brother ABCs on 95.5, 97.1 and 98.7, and Newcastle ABCs on 102.1 and 106.1 all fair reception. Also got 2NUR fair and also 2HD 97.5 but weak. No other Port Stephens stations though. 99.7 was 2SSR Sutherland
Nothing from inland though, the Lookout didnât have any outlook at the west or south west at all.
