Remains disappointing they were ever allocated to that frequency, was a clear channel for ABC North Coast (Lismore).
Originally, NewsRadio was allocated AM 828 from Valdora (between Coolum and Yandina), however the tinfoil hatted yokels out there complained so much to all stakeholders (elected MPs/Senators, ACMA, BA, ABC, even ATSB) that the site did not proceed and onto 94.5 they went.
I recall and remain equally baffled why Sunshine and Salt were allocated 104.9 and 106.5. Is it acceptable by ACMA for CCI of national to community but not national to national?
There is quite severe co-channelling in the Brisbane area on 1065. and 104.9. The Southern Downs stations wipe out any reception from the community broadcasters in many areas and cause poor reception in others. Sunshine is the worst impacted.
Not sure if normal was listening to Connect FM on 100.9 fm, a Rock in stereo show from the 80s and 90s, and noticed another station fighting it on Pennant Hills road. I think it was Port Stephens FM. This was around 830pm. I don’t listen to Connect FM much.
Port Stephens FM was in here at Bowral tonight as well as well as 95.9, 97.5 and 98.3. Alongside Newcastle Commercials and Community Stations and Middle Brother. 2HD Belmont on 90.5 as well at weak levels.
We have some tropo about tonight.
Only 180km away from me, but the s-meter - S9+20! My 100kw Bunbury ABCs only get to S9 ordinarily.
Couple of new loggings - 6WF 95.9 and 6NA 99.1 Boddington. 6NA FM Stereo and Iding as ‘The great Southern’s 9-18 Triple M’.
Another new one on 98.8 - Kwinana Motorplex race commentary and interviews. FM mono.
One Unidentified - 88.7. Continous talk, sounded like religious content but not Faith or Vision. (Also noted Vision Bunbury 1017AM off air).
And foriegn language music and talk on 107.1 and 107.2 - further investigations required…
Big signals in Brisbane this morning from Wide Bay and Rockhampton plus similar levels for Mackay (with RDS). Also enchantment from the south including JJJ on 101.9 from Mt Canobolis fighting with Hit from Fraser Coast.
Have been able to null out the local Hit106.9 to get 2VOX-FM. Wollongong community stations over Central Coast. 2RPH Sydney City interfering with the local one on 100.5.
Duct is strong down to about Nowra but goes inland to the Blue Mountains too, 2WOW Penrith being received too, that’s one of the harder ones to get from there. Did get a fairly weak 103.5 2BA too. Nothing from Eden though.
To the north, have heard a weak 92.3 ABC Coffs (same content as 92.5 ABC Central Coast).
Middle Brother at moderate strength with 96.3 Triple J over Coast fm.
From Port Stephens, 97.5 2HD had a partial RDS decode, 101.5 Great Lakes under the splatter of Hit 101.3 and WS fm.
I also had 2RE on the car radio in the car park of Stanhope Gardens shopping centre but not on the dx setup at home.
To the south Wollongong enhanced but it stops there. No 91.7 2ST.
On the TV side obviously no Wollongong reception tonight, but what is very interesting is there is no Sydney SW reception either. Could Raymond Terrace / Medowie be CCI? If that is the case Vault Hill Picton could be having issues receiving their feeds from Razorback Range.
To add to my previous post, Newcastle is starting to weaken now, and Sydney SW UHF TV reception is back in. Looks like it is was Medowie / Raymond Terrace causing the interference. Pretty impressive considering it is low to medium power, and received off the back of my UHF antenna pointing south to Wollongong.
Central Coast is in a SFN with Sydney SW so I wonder if there was any ducting issues affecting reception on the Central Coast?
Lots of ducts creating echoes on the BOM weather radar tonight, quite intense local to medium distance tropo, one of the best of the season so far.
I didn’t really check but Middle Brother wasn’t really any stronger than usual here, and that’s usually the main enemy for Bouddi, Gosford and Wyong TXs as they take the VHF signals off air from Artarmon/Gore Hill. So my guess is that they wouldn’t have been affected.
I was thinking more people watching Bouddi or Foresters Beach right on the coast in poor signal areas could have experienced some CCI from Medowie but the vertical polarity would help reduce it.
