No luck with 2BRW at Dural but would surely be possible in good tropo conditions. No problems nulling Skid Row- in fact, Skid Row is very poor to non existent out at Penrith and Windsor.
Absolutely - Iāve received it at home just south of Newcastle, even with 2RE nulled out.
Well Mt Burr is also where the local WIN Television & ABC TV transmitters are, so I understand why the radio transmitters are also there, but Mt Burr isnāt exactly that close to Mt Gambier.
North Bro report for this morning:
KIIS 97.3 Brisbane almost triggering RDS
88.5, 90.1, 94.1 Gold Coast
Sydney FM with RDS
Wollongong 97.3 clear within sight of Middle Brother
Nothing from Lord Howe. First time Iāve had Sydney and Brisbane at the same time.
I think on two occasions Iāve had SE QLD and Sydney or Wollongong at the same time.
Jamuary 2014 which was a bumper year, I had Sunshine Coast, Sydney and Wollongong at the same time at my previous residence in Newcastle.
February late 00s I think, when staying at Port Macquarie, I had Brisbane and Wollongong at the same time.
Enhanced troppo in Brisbane this morning but nothing spectacular. Mostly from south, south west and west. Coffs stations are stronger Grafton 103.1 and Hit Dalby included.
Very flat conditions here in Sydney., except for some enhancements to the Southern Highlands. Music fm received in noisy stereo.
Again they are having issues with their broadcast, their audio levels are turned down so low that you can just hear the music they are playing just above the stereo pilot.
All the action seems to be up north as forecast. Great catches @dxnerd with your Brisbane / Gold Coast reception. When I was there last there was no Tropo but huge SpE openings to NZ, the elevation of North Brother, and clear LOS east over the ocean enhanced the NZ signals.
Tomorrow / Monday will probably be prime for NZ Tropo from North Brother.
Maybe late Monday / Tuesday for Sydney, but the predicted ducts are north of Sydney, and off the coast from Sydney. So best bets would be elevated locations right on the coast, Stanwell Tops etc.
Iām traveling up to the Gold Coast next week Sunday, is there any good catches I should look out for and/or locations for a DX?
Iāll give North Bro one last crack on the way down on Monday morning.
And yes, I do love saying North Bro.
If you have a car, Beacon Lookout (at the western end of Beacon Rd, Tamborine Mountain) has been my spotā¦. Iāve received Bundaberg from up there.
Currently in a motel at the eastern end of the Mt Gambier CBD.
Here, SAFM is noticeably better than Triple M on my portable radio. Even 5GTR has a better signal than MMM. Lime FM has the best signal of all, the ABCs/SA/5GTR are similar and Triple M is at the back of the pack.
In car, itās not as noticeable.
Huge NZ tropo in progress from Sawtell. Many outlets from Auckland, Hamilton and Northland with RDS. New loggings from 97.5 Radio Tautoko and 100.1 Rodney.
I can confirm that too.
If only we had some Dxers from those areas of NZ over here on MS. I wonder if they are receiving Mount Moombil and Middle Brother knowing how Tropo goes both ways. I hope that the Tropo duct from NZ reaches my area in the next few days.
You two are up at Boambee head going dx mad no doubt? ![]()
I swung past there about a month ago on the way back from the Gold Coast, wasnāt much enhancement that day.
Here is the current Hepburn Tropo map for the NZ tropo onto the MNC.
Here is the Tuesday tropo map for the Central NSW Coast. I think the best chances for NZ tropo will be Tuesday evening after the NW winds drop. Still the NZ duct is just off the coast. If we did not have the prevailing NW winds and sea breezes instead we probably would have a similar opening down here to what is happening on the MNC.
Plenty of āToads about as well, from the West Dorrigo spot:
- Most Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast outlets with RDS, notably Salt 106.5.
- 100.6 Breeze (but not 99.4 Rebel due to 99.5 splash).
- Weak 90.5 Rebel FM Beaudesert
Also the rarely heard 91.3 ABCRR Bonalbo. Nothing heard from 99.3 Maryborough or anything further north than the Scumshine Coast, possibly due to land interrupting the path?
Bryan Clark in Northland would be getting the MNC signals Iām sure.
If you enjoy country drives with many twists and turns in lower gears, anywhere elevated hinterland is good.
Beechmont, Springbrook and Tamborine.
There are shielded spots on Mt Tamborine that you can null 100.6 enough to receive 100.7 Toowoomba, thatās how diverse your opportunities are.
Certain NZ tropo signals such as 101.0/103.4 Hamilton are good enough to be āentertainment qualityā whilst driving, even a fair distance inland at Bellingen and Dorrigo. Itās certainly one of the more intense NZ tropo openings that Iāve experienced.
I 100% agree, to receive Triple M clearly on my Panasonic RF-2400 portable radio, you have to have the antenna fully extended, compared to back when Triple M was on AM, the portable radio had no problem picking up itās signal.
Hope you are having a good time in the south east (if you still are here).
