I earlier stopped at Beachport, a bit further south, in hindsight that may have been a better DX spot overall as when I did a quick check, I had all Swan Hill and Loxton ABCs, and very weak Mildura. That was 10am so conditions may have just been more favourable then too.
Will do a night time AM scan tonight, keen to see if I can get any WA stations here at Robe.
Tropo continues tonight with new loggings of Coromandel More FM 89.1, an iwi station on 92.2 and 95.1 Coromandel FM. 105.8 Hamilton also logged.
Absolutely awesome! Theyâre great catches. What a treat to experience and so early in the season - extraordinary. Hope you can post some videos for us all later.
Dead as a Dodo here in Sydney tonight. The NW winds, not strong is still killing everything. Wollongong, Newcastle, Central Tablelands Lithgow / Orange all weaker than normal.
It is looking like all the action will stay north of Sydney centred on the MNC, excellent catches @dxnerd.
Update: looks like some ducts are starting to form off the coast of Sydney on the BOM weather radar.
Rockhampton into Brisbane tonight.
Update: Now Mackay - MMM and PNN
Excellent effort as always @Radiohead with your DX contributions.
Whatâs really sad across these lists is the lack of 1125 5MU, a very well engineered and maintained site that boomed across to where you are.
Now none of their FM conversion sites are audible. Sad.
Wow, so much to catch up on here in just a couple of days.
Well done @dxnerd and @Mechsta on that trans-Tasman tropo, sounded pretty epic!
Thanks also for posting that bandscan down in SA too @Radiohead - amazing how far the Victorian AM stations carry across that part of the world. A real contrast to this part of the world.
And agree with all the other posts here @TheChase about locations - Tamborine Mountain can be surprisingly good as a DX spot despite having many transmitters on it, as there are enough pockets where youâre shielded from them. I posted before about receiving 92.9 Toowoomba with RDS at the lookout/hang gliding spot on Main Western Road despite being only about 2km from the local Breeze relay on the same frequency. Just drive around and explore - the scenery up there too is pretty stunning
Had some Adelaide reception near Naracoorte today (on the way from Robe SA to Horsham VIC via Bordertown).
Enough to see RDS on 105.5 triple j and SBSRadio on 106.3. And to hear Pharrell Williams being âHappyâ on 102.3. Also heard Nova91.9 but not 104.7 or 107.1. Heard some Radio Adelaide on 101.5 too.
Mount Gambier ABCs had impressive coverage - lasted until about Lawloit VIC. Lookout Hill Ballarat ABCs came back from around that point too, even weak Bendigo ABCs from east of Nhill.
West VIC ABCs were received pretty much the whole way.
I should note that all NZ tropo was gone by sunrise today and there was only short range enhancement at North Brother at around 0900. There was still a seabreeze on the MNC but the inversion layer was pretty shallow (it felt warm up at North Brother) and by Karuah, the hot NWâlies were firmly in control.
The next change is due on Wednesday here which will bring an end to the heatwave and tropo for now.
In Horsham tonight on the way back home.
Have answered another question for myselfâŚ. Triple J and Classic FM can both be received here from both Lookout Hill (Ballarat site) and Mt Dundas (Hamilton) but Ballarat does give considerably better reception here for both stations.
That has been spot on, and Hepburn has nailed this event too.
While Sydney has been predominantly under NW winds for the whole event, the MNC had sea breezes to begin with which allowed the NZ duct to form. Now that the NW is well established, and with the sea breeze remaining off the coast, that is where the NZ ducts will remain. Come Thursday the Southerly change will wipe everything out.
In Sydney it has been very disappointing at best with reception worse than in flat conditions. At least we now have an archived tropo map of this event for future forecasting.
Looking ahead, the next Tropo for the Greater Sydney region isnât until Sunday at the earliest as the southerly will disrupt things for the next few days.
Going by the most long range Hepburn charts.
itâs only fair to marginal at best with ducts from Canberra to Sydney, and along the coast from the MNC to the far SC.
By Monday it will be 30âc in western Sydney with light sea breezes in the afternoon, more conducive for tropo. Though nothing to get too excited about compared to the current event on the MNC.
Though Broome looks like it would be amazing for Indonesian tropo. I really need to get up there at this time of year.
Troppo from the north into Brisbane this morning as far as Mackay.
There must have been some morning enhancement about in West VIC today, as between Horsham and St Arnaud, I had Mt Gambier ABCs, along with SAFM and Lime FM. Also had Mildura ABCs too.
Though by the time I got to the Hume Hwy towards Albury, it had disappeared as I was unable to repeat last weeks effort of getting Orange ABCs - Riverina and MIA ABCs couldnât be received either.
So right in the red spot here every morning I seem to get something appearing underneath Radio National on 576AM
Any ideas on what it could be? Surely, itâs not Star from Hamilton NZ?
Probably more likely to be interference from one of the Homebush Bay TXs since you are pretty close to it in West Ryde.
