$1.70 Melb v $2.15 Geelong. That’s in favour of Melbourne. Not that I bet on footy, but the bookies do seem to be pretty spot on in two horse races.

I wasn’t talking about those odds  We know how wrong the bookies can be…

And to be honest if I was a betting man I would be backing Geelong at those odds.

Just looked and I don’t think Melbourne are $1.10. From what I am seeing they are a $1.70

Yep, sorry, typo.

Here is the 2018 AFL All-Australian Team announced during a ceremony in Melbourne tonight.

Half Backs: Shannon Hurn (West Coast), Jeremy McGovern (West Coast), Lachie Whitfield (GWS)
Centers: Andrew Gaff (West Coast), Dustin Martin (Richmond), Steele Sidebottom (Collingwood)
Half Forwards: Patrick Dangerfield (Geelong, vice captain), Lance Franklin (Sydney, captain), Robbie Gray (Port Adelaide)
Forwards: Luke Breust (Hawthorn), Jack Riewoldt (Richmond), Jack Gunston (Hawthorn)
Followers: Max Gawn (Melbourne), Patrick Cripps (Carlton), Tom Mitchell (Hawthorn)
Interchange: Brodie Grundy (Collingwood), Clayton Oliver (Melbourne), Shaun Higgins (North Melbourne), Shane Edwards (Richmond)

Franklin was named All-Australian captain for the first time.
What do you think of the team? Whom do you think should have been included or dropped?

Really surprised Tom Jonas was not in the All Australian side. Port Adelaide, although not great in the last month, easily had one of the best defenses in the competition yet they didn’t have a single entry in the All Australian.

Embarrassing how bad the side is. But it is picked by 10 or so media guys, so it’s bound to end up this way.

An interesting observation: no brisbane, Gold Coast, St Kilda, Bulldogs And Freo players in the all Australian squad. Possibly due to underperforming of 2018?

Yes.

Don’t mind it tbh, there’s always going to be people unhappy, always.

It’s opinion based. Picked by people in the media with their own biased opinions.
My problems with it include: which key defenders aren’t playing loose? When did Dangerfield and Gray play hff? Which team plays 2 specialist rucks who don’t really play forward? Why is the captain not even one of the leaders at his club?

Hawthorn’s Tom Mitchell was voted the AFL Players Association Most Valuable Player of 2018 by fellow players.

Doesn’t Robbie Gray play that position most weeks?

I’d say he plays deeper most of the time, that’s more forward pocket personally. With that said, Breust and Gunston are the forward pockets and it’s hard to suggest they play there. Although, which team lines up like that anymore?

I don’t think any of the Port players play deep forward. Hence why they couldnt score above 60 most weeks

Port relied so much on playing 1 and 2 extra players behind the ball and running through, horrid when it doesn’t work and they turn the ball over.

As for the Legends game, think that may be dying a slow death. Yes the wet weather had an impact on the crowd but the interest was a little lukewarm at best. Perhaps moving it back to the middle of the year would be the best solution rather than in a week off that I’m actually sure not many want (the AFLPA I know would rather have it well before the end of the season rather than the current position).

I am really not a fan of the week off before Finals. I think the AFL need to do something on this weekend! Give us Vic v The Rest or something. They can organise the teams in the last two weeks of the season with the players not playing in finals.

Or change up the home and away season a little and have the final 10 teams play off for something, like draft picks, in the weekend before finals. Perhaps the winner being given a second chance or something?

The E.J. Whitten Legends Game was on Friday night?

Yep and it is the most boring game to have on the weekend before finals. The women’s game was better.

This is what I would propose next year:

Friday Night:
7:00 AFL Women: Vic V The Rest

Saturday:
4:00 E.J Whitten Legends Game
7:00 AFL Men: Vic V The Rest

Or/and

On the Sunday at the MCG you could then have all teams play for an extra round 1 draft pick. Everyone keeps their first round pick in the bottom 10, 1-11 (one kept for free agency if needed) and pick 12 becomes a bonus pick for the team at the top of the table at the end of the round. The top 8 then get picks 13-20.

They could just play short games of 10 minutes to determine the winner. Or just play AFLX.

Because the game was being played at Adelaide Oval during wet conditions and fewer than 11000 people turned up to be one of the most boring games on the AFL calendar. The ratings have taken a dive from last year.

That’s what I think didn’t work at Adelaide Oval though (spectacular crowd failure).

They want “South Australia”, like a true mini State of Origin, not ‘the rest’. A lot of social and radio talk about that.

It’s for a great awareness and has always been very popular, but EJ game does need a rethink and bring back AFLW State of Origin for Saturday, VFL did not work.
