On the subject of the AFL preliminary finals, 2GB producer and sports presenter for Ben Fordham Live, Spiro Christopoulos, will be the boundary reporter for 3AW’s call of Sydney v Port Adelaide this Friday night.

Tonight SEN Trackside in Sydney will broadcast the preliminary final between the Swans and Port Adelaide, while the main station covers the Sharks-Cowboys semi final in the NRL.
Tomorrow, Geelong v Brisbane will be broadcast on the FM frequency of Triple M Brisbane, and SEN 693 Brisbane.

As reported by Caroline Wilson for The Age and 3AW yesterday (Sep 21), the AFL has finally reached a collective agreement with all current radio rights holders. The deal will last for 3 years until 2027.
The details revealed in the article include:
- 3AW will call an extra game per week - likely meaning the return of weekly Thurs night calls for the first 15 rounds and an extra weekend game for the remaining games.
- 3AW’s payment to the AFL will be “proportionally less” than the current deal.
- Triple M will continue as the sole FM broadcaster and will continue to call every match of the season as well as SEN/AFL Nation and ABC.
- The AFL will cut back on some services for 3AW and Triple M employees such as hospitality services at the Brownlow Medal, the GF and Gather Round, as well as access to the September Club.
- These cut backs will reportedly lead to a “small net-gain” compared to the current deal, making up for the drops in payment from 3AW and possibly other networks.
- FiveAA and K Rock will continue to broadcast local games into Adelaide and Geelong respectively.
- There is no mention about continuing the deal between FiveAA and 3AW for other non-Adelaide matches.
- There is also no mention of rights for 6PR or the NIRS.

Just mention it here too as Darcy has been a key member of Triple M Melbourne commentary team for quite a while. Will be a big loss. I wonder if his spot will be replaced due to cost cutting at SCA.

Darcy has been a mainstay of the Friday night team on MMM for what must be at least 15 years now - with the Friday Huddle team for the last eight years and what was known as the Friday Rub in its previous incarnation before then.
As for next year, Nathan Brown who provides special comments on Friday nights could switch to doing play-by-play with Mark Howard, or SCA could lean on other internal talent such as Jack Heverin to fill the void.

Triple M and LiSTNR get set for the AFL Grand Final
It’s a most unusual weekend coming up for AFL fans with no Victorian team featuring in the grand final. Triple M and LiSTNR are preparing their coverage and commentary across the country in the lead-up to the big game on Saturday at the MCG between minor premiers the Sydney Swans, and the Brisbane Lions, who beat Geelong last weekend.

3AW and SEN’s AFLW match of the week is Kangaroos v Richmond from Launceston this Sunday at 1pm. The city’s community station City Park Radio (96.5 FM and 103.7 FM) will also broadcast the match.
Western Bulldogs AFLW assistant coach Matt Skubis will provide special comments for 3AW’s coverage.
ABC Melbourne and regional Victorian stations will have live coverage of the AFL Grand Final parade live this Friday from 11am AEST. It will be hosted by Corbin Middlemas, Ben Cameron and Luke Ball.

Triple M has announced their commentators for the grand final will be Mark Howard and Luke Darcy, with comments and analysis from Jason Dunstall, Nathan Brown, Michael Roberts on the boundary plus veteran stats man Ash Chua.
3AW commentary team for the match is: Anthony Hudson, Tim Lane, Matthew Lloyd, Jimmy Bartel and Jacqui Reed.
EDIT 28/9: ABC Radio commentary team for the GF: Corbin Middlemas, Clint Wheeldon, Mick Malthouse, Cameron Ling and Brett Deledio, with Kelli Underwood on the boundary plus roving reporters Ben Cameron, Matt Clinch and Brett Sprigg. Paul Roos recorded a four-minute introduction to the broadcast.

2GB and 4BC have had The Continuous Call Team on dipping in and out of 3AW’s Grand Final pre-match coverage. Presumably they’ll take the full match.

K rock 95.5 Geelong being like a normal hit music station during the Katy Perry pre-game show, most of the time there was no audience heard, just the music audio input like the studio recording of the song. Only in small sections is there audience cheering heard. I’ve taped the pre-game show on my FM radio.
Triple M Melbourne couldn’t handle Katy Perry, thus they were in a commercial break, because they live and breathe rock.
