AFL broadcast rights 2025-2031

But then none of us would have anything to talk about and we’d have to close the thread.

With Fox/7 saying “We will put games on 2 hour delay outside of Victoria”, I hope the AFL will say “Fuck that, we will give rights to Nine now who will not put games on delay and actually treat the game with respect”. Because Nine actually do put in more effort than Seven with shoes as said earlier.

Oohhh. I wonder if Foxtel/Seven are worried now.

Oh? :dotted_line_face:

What is truth and what isn’t?

Sounds like another anonymous insider.

“An insider spoke who on the condition of anonymity because he didn’t have a clue what was going on but loves to gossip and didn’t want to look like an idiot when the deal was announced said …”

Everyone involved - it’s not that big a surprise, we only know about it because its newsworthy (and a number of parties are strategically leaking to ‘friendly’ media for coverage)

Sam McClure is reporting on Nine’s reported $500 million a year deal on Sportsday tonight. He said that this is a “declaration of war” from Nine - as they are trying to make Seven empty out their pockets so they have less money for Olympic deals, for example, and also because Nine want to build Stan’s sports streaming service.

Sam said that because senior people at Nine told him nothing today and remained tight lipped, which they wouldn’t usually do, he takes that as a sign that there is something going on.

Channel9⁩ did not participate in final AFL broadcast rights auction today.

So they were apparently the only ones not present?

So who’s Kevin Perry’s source then?

Surely Sam/3AW/Nine is the best source to use tonight right?

Footy Classified should be interesting tonight… :eyes:

Seems like Nine have put in a late play to make Seven / Newscorp bleed.

Regardless of the bidding process… a mere $50m per year increase for rights that run until 2029 is actually pathetic. And for Australia’s number one sport I think they’d actually want more. I think they’d get more if they offered more exclusivity and sold tranches of packages or at least the finals exclusive to free to air.

We can live in hope. 9 would want Olympics and so pushing 7 to the wall would help.

Seven News reported that Nine has a chance of getting the rights.

Nine pitched at 9am.
Ten pitched at 10am.
Seven pitched at 11am.

Mentions to Kerry Stokes with Gillon at Freo vs. Bulldogs was also shown, and negotiations are set to continue tonight at HSV.

Tony Jones is away tonight on Nine News, maybe he was a part of the pitch?

It’s also going to make it harder for Seven to retain the Tennis rights.

Would have been funny if Seven bid at 7am. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

How is it silent if we know what the bid is?

Missed opportunity by the AFL there.
