AFL broadcast rights 2025-2031

Take a deep breath and remember that he is simply promoting his business and their interests as he is paid to do. You don’t need to care this much.

foxtel knows that AFL / NRL are the main reasons they have the subs they do.

As a Brisbane Based Carlton fan, its the only way i see my team play every week as the FTA coverage isn’t great.

Fox is also on thin ice given the channels and content they have lost and not replaced over the past 12 to 18 months, and the value of having it my home is droping fast, unlike my subscription fees

If Foxtel is successful in retaining AFL broadcast rights, there is no doubt subscription cost will rise for the duration of the new deal.

Reports that Paramount had lowballed the AFL and offered less than even the current deal are not understood to be accurate, according to sources.

So complete nonsense from the Australian a few days ago?

Contrary to previous reporting, Nine’s offer for the AFL broadcast rights was not confined to Thursday nights and included games on streaming service Stan.

That’s interesting and the first we’ve heard of a more comprehensive 9 bid. A TNF only bid from 9 always seemed peculiar, to me at least, given the other bids.

I would prefer P+/10 but if not them, Stan/9. I just want it off Seven and Fox

Nine/Stan should not get AFL matches if they can’t promise they will use their media power (also through 2GB and The Sydney Morning Herald) to promote matches in NSW, ACT and QLD, and will show primetime matches involving Swans, GWS, Brisbane and Gold Coast on the main channel from time to time.

Its looking more and more likely that only 3 live games will be televised on free to air going forward. Thursday Night / Friday Night (Assuming Saturday Night at this stage)

Anzac Day will fall on a Friday in 2025 and a Saturday in 2026. Does it mean Collingwood v Essendon will be behind the paywall in 2026?

Zero chance of that. Even “Super Saturday” NRL sees FTA coverage of special round matches. Magic Round etc.

3 games would be Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

If Seven/Fox retain the rights, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 2.5 games a round on FTA (given it’s currently 3.5 so just take 1 off).

Which means Friday nights, Sunday afternoons, and then 11 other games (a combination of Thursday nights, special matches on Easter Monday, Queens Birthday etc) televised on Seven.

A terrible outcome.

Thursday night is coming every week. It’ll be 3 games a week with Sunday games moved for PH (and Thursday moved for Anzac Day Eve)

Edit: if we’re lucky it will be Thursday, Friday, Sunday plus any PH games that fall on other days.

Perth viewers are dudded this year by missing out on blockbusters. We missed out on Collingwood v Carlton and Collingwood v Essendon in favour of dead rubbers

This is the downside to having FTA access to every local team game - you’re going to miss out on better games, its a compromise

The only problem with putting games on 7+ (including SA/WA) is that people can use the “Change my location” feature to get West Coast games if people live in Melbourne etc. instead of paying for Foxtel.

Bro shhhhhhh
