AFL broadcast rights 2025-2031

The news break on Fox 101.9 in Melbourne this morning stated 10 were out of the running after only bidding $500m per year - likely quoting the article. I would’ve liked to have seen 10 with the rights so hoping that’s inaccurate.

When is this decision due?

I don’t think anyone knows for certain, but the latest reporting suggested by the end of August. The reports have been wrong on it the whole way through though - think we were due for an announcement in June initially.

I wish it would hurry up… so many comments back and forth on here, and so much speculation.

But when its over the comments will fill with, “I am so annoyed Ten didn’t get it”
Or
“Sucked in fox enjoy the dark ages”
Or
“But what about the fans, seven do such a crappy job”
And
“What was Nine doing? Did they even bid?”

Fun times ahead! My bingo card and :popcorn::popcorn: is ready

“The AFL is now going to go backwards, just look at the (insert British sport here) TV rights in the UK.”

So true.
But at least I won’t bother looking at the posts because I’ll know the answer.

Note the key term: “speculation”

So the AFL supposedly used Ten’s bid to pressure Fox and Seven to up their bids, now Ten’s bid is too low?

So either Seven have given Fox a non-exclusive grand final and more exclusive SA/WA games, and Fox have upped their bid; or they haven’t and the AFL are trying to pretend Ten is non-competitive to get more out of them.

Probably the latter or that The Australian made it up.

I wouldn’t be surprised if both Paramount and 7/Fox were below the AFL’s ‘target’ (which by all accounts is being treated as a minimum) and this is either an attempt by the AFL to get someone to come to the party, or it could be a move from News to attempt to call the AFL’s bluff about the size of the competing deal

I’m not sure if they would but I understand why Fox wants exclusivity.

91k watched Eagles vs Crows on Fox, while 100k watched it on 7 in Adelaide & 133k watched on 7 in Perth

And that is a national number including regional with the biggest audience in Melbourne. The Adelaide and Perth audiences on Fox Footy lower than 30th place in each market. Though Foxtel penetration there is low - which is the point of Fox wanting the exclusivity.

Rugby Australia did walk away from (or was it abandoned by?) Foxtel and signed a broadcast deal with Nine Entertainment. We will find out whether it provided a boost to Stan’s subscription numbers, when Nine Entertainment reveals its full year results later this month.

This bloke is so entitled and arrogant. He’s a travesty of an administrator. Just an awful bloke.
