ACE Radio (Regional)

I think it was a late decision don’t remember Len Johns mentioning anything about him continuing until 6pm until I tuned into today.

Don’t know if Early Mallee breakfast was on air this morning but there is no need for Len to be on air between 5 to 6am as local content requirements will now all be done during his afternoon show.

Are we sure it’s not just that they’re not taking the summer lineup but will go back to taking it once Jacqui starts?

Some of the Ace stations even take Denis Walter at night. All of them took Neil Mitchell and Overnights but there’s only a couple that bothered with Tom Elliot and Denis Walter.

With Tom moving to mornings I’m curious to which stations takes Jacqui. 2AY confirmed.

3SH was the only other station that took Drive but I am unsure that will continue I just don’t see her having the same pull as Tom.

3YB Warnambool and Gippsland Gold 1242 are the only stations that take music instead of Denis Walter

I didn’t realise Denis Walter was that widely syndicated on Ace. Thanks for confirming.

Last time 2AY dropped 3AW drive there was a bit of a backlash in Albury. Not sure how long it lasted for.

It was only two weeks that they ran with music.

I’m guessing given that Tom has taken the mornings slot they’re hoping to sneak the change in before Jacqui can build a following of her own.

It may just be a summer break thing too but in the past they’ve always continued to take 3AW drive over the Christmas/New Year period.

This is a shame. Gippsland have always enjoyed talk content from 3AW. 3AW content has been well received by audiences all across Victoria, a shame this isn’t continuing.

3AW’s new drive show with Jacqui Felgate started today- it looks like 2AY’s decision to drop 3AW Drive may be permanent as they are still running with music.

2AY is taking Jacqui “Failgate” on drive now.

To be fair to Ace, what else are they meant to do: make their own programming?

No, my post refers to that they were not initially taking when she started on 3AW drive

Yes but they did initially say they were always going to take JF. It was odd they did delay it though.

It started Monday last week. Personally I much preferred the music mix that was on over January in that slot.

It’s not hard to program and schedule music.

Running with this idea. Especially in Gippsland where a combined SCA/ACE ownership would own 3 stations in the overlapping Sale/Warragul market.

This could potentially end up with Triple M Gippsland taking over Gold 1242/98.3 and TRFM taking on Hit branding.

Triple M Gippsland could end up on 4 unique frequencies! Or would they brand it Triple M East Gippsland and run a separate breakfast show and advertising?

HIT: 99.5 Sale / 99.9 Bairnsdale
Triple M Gippsland: 94.3 Warragul / 97.9 Traralgon / 1242am Sale / 98.3 Bairnsdale

Then of course 3GG remains on 531am under Capital ownership.

If SCA were to purchase ACE, they would need to get rid of one of the licences in Sale/Warragul as they have a greater than 30% overlap, thus meaning they can only own 2 stations across the 2 licence areas.

They would also have a problem with Deniliquin which has a 59.86% overlap with Shepparton.

Fair call. The potential ARN/SCA merger adds another layer of complexity to it if that ever happens.

But it could easily see the overlapping ACE/SCA markets absorbed into whatever 2 companies come out the other side of the merger!

Hopefully SCA will be dead and buried by the time Ace want to give it away.

Let’s be real - they’re dead now, it’s just the burial which will be taking place once Duncan and Ciaran and crew finally get it.
