ACE Radio Broadcasters will be conducting test transmissions on 96.1MHz from midday Thursday 4th August 2022 from our One Tree Hill transmission site in Ararat.
Test transmission is planned to conclude on Friday 12th August when regular programming will commence.
SCA taking over sales representation for ACE regional and metro from later this month and supplying Hit Network programs to ACE FM stations from 16 January.
SCA will also supply Hit Network programs, including the Carrie & Tommy Drive show, 2Day FM’s Hughesy, Ed & Erin catch up show, Hot Nights with Abbie Chatfield and Jimmy & Nath to six of ACE Radio’s stations.
SCA will begin sales representation for ACE from 23 December for all activity on ACE stations airing after 1 February 2023. SCA programming on the six ACE stations will start from 16 January 2023.
I assume this will be TRFM, Coast and the four Mixx stations, with the two Edge stations excluded due to their overlap with Hit Shepparton and Albury.
I assume some of the ARN and Nova programs will then disappear from these Ace FM stations.
But then it becomes a bit disjointed if the Edge stations are programmed differently. Does Edge take Nova’s KTJ for example?
According to their websites, they do.
Gippsland is interesting - because Triple M Gippsland used to be Hit, so the listeners are somewhat familiar with the Hit Network programming.
It’ll be odd hearing the 13 10 60 number on TRFM as opposed to the SCA station there when it was Hit.
Hopefully a sign of returning Edge to it’s own playlists and form-- oh who am I kidding, it’s Ace we’re talking about here.
I think it’s unlikely Edge would take ARN or Nova programming while the other stations have SCA content. I’d expect them to just have a music shift.
The Ace Gold/AM Network also take some ARN programming such as Christian O’Connell and I don’t see that changing.
I am I right in thinking that ACE still operate due to SCA not being able to purchase them due to Voices rules??
They do seem the odd ones out…
That’s correct.
However, its regional stations could’ve been acquired by ARN at around the time when they acquired Grant Broadcasters, mainly due to the fact that its stations are available on iHeartRadio.
True. Ace remain independent for now but they are in the odd situation of having business affiliations with both SCA and ARN, carrying programming from Nine Radio and Nova, and on top of that they also lease 3 metro stations from Nine.
am i right in thinking in January the 6 radio stations carrying sca hit content, will just be a sca station with ace branding?
I don’t believe so. Unless the Ace stations start taking the Hit Regional music log too! They’ll remain Ace stations simply taking some SCA programming.
Before Austereo merged with Southern Cross it was common place for Austereo metro content (mainly Today Network content at the time) to be syndicated on various regional networks (including Ace Radio). It’s simply a return to that sort of model I think.
btw what are the voices rules??? and why couldn’t sca get ace radio?
I expect all stations will take SCA content regardless of overlap, SCA and Ace don’t care about specifics, they want bulk deals and coverage.
Market specific interest has long gone from SCA and Ace, SCA would barely bat an eyelid if their Townsville cash cow, Steve Price, breakfast host on the MMM formerly known as 4TO.
I see this as Ace putting these services out to tender and SCA coming back with the best price/offer.
They’ve used ARN & Nova before for a contract length and now going to try SCA.
Wonder which metro they’ll prefer in hindsight?
The metro representation of sales is interesting because if you look at the current metro market, can you really say SCA agency sales are doing the best job? SCA are not pulling the best commercial share per capita let alone audience share.
Really only Nine with their talk stations have any experience in the demos that Ace’s metro stations are in.
I’m interested to know why Ace think a company representing younger demos and formats would take the time to properly represent their stations for agency sales?
Ace have managed some agency buying of their metro stations this year, albeit clients of dubious value (financial and non TGA supplements).
Are Ace going to let go or grandfather their existing agency and direct sales staff?
ok am i right or wrong in thinking sca is Australia’s largest commercial radio network?
It’s also known as the ‘4/5 rule’. In a regional commercial radio market, the required minimum number of media companies (ie. voices) is 4, encompassing commercial radio & TV licences, as well as a daily newspaper in the larger regional markets. For instance, most ACE solus markets has only 4 media companies owning commercial radio & TV licences (ie. ACE, Seven, WIN, SCA).
Yes, SCA is the largest commercial radio network, followed by ARN.
