ACE Radio (Regional)

Yes totally agree 2UE should not be covering AFL, I would feel the same way if the 2GB Cretinous Call Team was being relayed into Victoria.

I would love to have CCT relayed into Victoria. At the moment, the only way to hear NRL matches every week is via streaming and digital radio, which is good for fans in Melbourne but not so in rural areas with inadequate internet speeds. ABC News Radio only broadcast Storm matches across Victoria each week.
I feel Victoria is a market too big for the NRL to ignore. The upcoming broadcast deal with Nine (which includes exclusive live broadcast of Sunday 4pm game on radio) is a missed opportunity, with NTS closed down and Magic now run by ACE Radio.

Gold Gippsland (98.3 and 1242) has been playing some decent music since midday (I think they take 3AW mornings until then).

Much better than being pretty much a 3AW relay full time as they were a few years ago.

Their RDS on 98.3 is also informative for what is primarily an AM station, with weather and song info too.

Looking at their playlist on Lava, it’s primarily a ‘classic hits’ station, ranging from the 60s to the 90s.

Along with having 3GG (which uses the same log as GNFM/XLFM), as well as Triple M Gippsland, the Latrobe Valley has a decent mix of good commercial adult music radio stations for a regional area.

You’re quite right. Back in 2016 they had local breakfast with Greg Allen (who is the long time local news reader on both Gold and TRFM) and also Julie Strini (now 3MP breakfast) at midday until 3pm.

Outside of those shifts it was a full 3AW relay.

Guessing they would have the same log as 3NE & 2QN and the other AM Ace stations

That’s correct, along with 3YB FM in Warrnambool.

Shall we See 3CS and 3WM have FM Transmissions real soon?

for Ararat from august 12 3wm will be on FM
source 3wm them selfs

That’s a Start.

Ararat FM for 3WM is merely a translator. The main FM signal when/if conversion happens is inadequate.

Ace are nuts if they ever turn 1134 off. Signal gets all the way to Melbourne via groundwave and covers a large chunk of the western district too. An FM service even if set at the same specs of Mixx FM couldn’t come remotely close to that.

Between 3CS, 3HA and 3WM they basically have coverage of almost all of Victoria west of Melbourne. So why not turn on translators in key centres (like they have/will in Portland, Warrnambool (a conversion I know) and Ararat) and leave the main TXs on AM for the widespread coverage it offers.

I see Edge (Deni) 102.5 are advertising on there FB page that there Echuca Moama frequency 92.5 is moving house day to 103.9.

This article is strangely worded like its a transition from AM to FM but that doesn’t match to discussion in this read?

ACE are trying to make it look like an FM conversion to boost sales. All that’s happening is that they’ve added an FM translator in Ararat which had about 15% of the licence area population (a bit more when you include fortuitous reception). For Horsham and the rest of the licence area they’re still on AM.

Is this similar to what they did with the Bairnsdale FM translator for Gold 1242? They weren’t eligible for a full conversion due to the non-solus overlap with Warragul I recall.

Yeah same thing really. Not an FM conversion, not even a pseudo conversion given it wouldn’t be receivable in the “main” town, but gives the AM station and FM repeater in a town that already had an FM repeater for main FM service.

So really the kind of thing Bill’s being doing with his Super Radio Network for years? Although he’s had a bit more luck in getting FM repeaters in more major population centres.

It’s an interesting choice of frequency that one, curious if the specs are the same as 98.5 which gets out quite well towards Ballarat? Remember driving along the Western there use to be a stretch between Beaufort and Ararat where hit/safm mt gambier came in strong enough on 96.1 to get RDS. Imagine that could be interesting during summer DX season!
