so berrigan doese exist lol side note: this was the name of the town mentioned in a country practice:P
still doesnt matter what you do . the same will remain that edge and hitfm are both boring radio stations to listen to. and after listening to both i will never take grants radio stations for granted again
2QN is the tower closer to Deniliquin on the eastern side of the highway. Edge is the taller tower (as above… thank you oz1235) further south on the western side of the highway. You can tell which is the FM station by the array antenna on it.
They both have signs out the front, which is a little unusual for transmitter sites these days.
The other potential factor is Flow FM, it is licensed to serve Bunnaloo on 93.9 at 3kw, and it’s about 45 kms SW of Deni.
Though when I was in the area last June, it was still not yet on air.
Yes we were back then. Back around 1996ish we had:
Classic Rock 102.5 - Rock. Similar to Rebel FM
Sun FM - CHR/Variety. This station was my favourite. As what @Adrian said, this station was unique.
3BO FM - AC/Hot AC. Similar to 3TTFM at the time. I always remember them using “The Best Mix Of The 70’s to Now”
3SRFM - Classic Hits
2QN - AC/Easy listening
3CV - Easy listening
What does surprise me is how Ace have handled their Western Vic stations. Mixx Colac has a local breakfast yet Coast Fm being in a larger market is stuck with the syndicated show from Traralgon. It’s a real shame to see that happen given some great shows like Monkey & Bigfella and Kewy &Karis which have been on Coast in the past.
even the programs are differnt for Mixx Fm colac and Mixx fm Horsham and different again for Mixx FM Swan hill
No, you’re close though, it was the fictitious nearby town of Burrigan (spelling) in a Country Practice. I was on set once (visiting).
Gosh Bunnaloo, is not much more than wheat silos and a few houses. A Flow FM outlet in that area would be intrusive on ACE’s coverage area in the populated areas in the region.
When I was last through the area the audio from 102.5 The Edge Deniliquin was extremely flat, wasn’t like that before ACE Radio purchased the station. Audio is fine from 102.1 Wangaratta, but compressed and flat now on 102.5FM. Such a shame for listeners in the region.
I noticed that a month after when ACE took it over. I don’t know what they did, but the audio sounded awful.
Yep, everyone’s nightmare came true when ACE took over these stations.
Could be worse - I could’ve brought them.
What’s different between the MixxFms. From what I gather Mixx Colac and the Edges are 80s to now the rest use Nothin but hits play list is the same. Seems so stupid switching between 1077 and 102.5 pretending to be different formates
theres is a lot . local shows for one
Trevor Sinclair now on Gold1242, not sure if across the other ‘heritage’ stations or not. Karen Prater now also on afternoons/drive. Both great talent, but nothing local anymore.
Ace seem to have abandoned quite a lot of its local programming in favour of voice tracked shifts with local ads inserted to create the illusion of the live and local feel. CoastFm use to have a local breakfast program plus 2 daytime announcers, now it’s down to one morning shift.
With ACE programming the metro stations 2UE/Magic/4BH from next year, I hope they continue playing mostly 70s and 80s classics with some soul, motown and disco. There is a gap in the market for this type of format as Smooth is now playing a lot more 90s, 00s and new music.
It would also be good to have announcers in the afternoons and evenings, 7 days a week, similar to Smooth, instead of just mornings.
Yes. I agree. The stations need to feel alive with personality and not just someone’s Spotify playlist.
I just hope ACE don’t butcher and “regionalise” the current playlist. It’s actually quite good.
As much as Smooth has announcers it is so scripted and lacks genuine warmth. It is like having smiling heads on auto pilot. For this radio lover it is enough to not listen to Smooth. Infact it almost makes me want to bring up the days takings.
ACE does a much better job of voice tracking than most stations. One would expect a live breakfast show is possibly what ACE will provide when they takeover 2UE, 4BH & Magic 1278. Anything else is a bonus.
