Shetland Season 8 Episode 6 Season Final

Friday 6 December 8.30pm

Calder and Tosh are back together as the police descend upon the Bain farm and begin their search. Bobby is arrested as his horrified family look on. In the interview room, Calder bluntly probes Bobby’s relationship with his niece and he explodes in a conspicuous fury.

Back at the farm, a piece of Ellen’s clothing is found, leading the police to Rory and then in turn to Grace. She admits she saw her granddaughter that night. They argued and Ellen left, but what the argument was about, Grace refuses to say.

With Bobby unravelling and Grace defiant, the team sense a secret at the heart of the Bains. Tosh draws a link to Ellen’s breakdown and the date of an important family gathering, while Calder questions rumours of her own father’s supposed affair with Stella. The penny drops on an answer more shocking than either could have imagined.

A devastated Bobby and Stella separately explain how they came to this point. Tosh and Calder reconvene to find themselves grimly aligned in their instinct for the identity of the killer.

Calder drives in funereal pursuit to Eala, and the spot where Ellen’s body was found, to learn of her final moments. How years of pain and suffering were unleashed in one uncharacteristic outburst of violence.
After the dust on the case has settled, Tosh offers her partner a final professional courtesy. To her surprise, Calder then finds herself restoring Alan’s view of their father – she appears to be seeing the old man and the Isles in a new light. Finally, a visit to James offers one last gift from his late brother.

From the ABC 2025 upfronts today

The concert will be held at Sydney Lyric Theatre on Monday, December 2 at 8pm. Tickets went on sale at Ticketmaster after the concert was announced on November 11, but were all snapped up.

It will be shown on ABC TV and ABC iView on Friday, December 20, at 7.30pm. It will also be broadcast on ABC radio and repeated throughout the Christmas season.

Press release from Michael Cassel Group

Let’s hope the audio will be produced by someone other than those responsible for the Classic 100 and Countdown 50th TV specials. So lacklustre on both TV outings!

Douglas Is Cancelled - Episode 3

Sunday 15 December 8.00pm

When Madeline Crow and Douglas Bellowes met for the first time, the encounter took an unexpected turn. Now, three years later, there are explosive consequences.

The Forest

Monday 16 December 8.30pm

The story of a brilliant ecologist with a plan to save the world by restoring the planet’s forests. His original work was hijacked by corporations and politicians with disastrous effect, so now he’s using science to fight back.

To understand the complex science and ecology of forests is an epic ambition. This film will reveal the wonder of forests from the smallest fungal communications in the roots below, to the dazzling biodiversity of the canopy above, through the eyes of a young ecologist called Tom Crowther. He uses big data to understand the world’s forests and draws on the work of field scientists around the world who are analysing how they function.

Tom estimated that there was enough land available for an extra trillion trees on the planet and that they could help soak up the planet’s excess carbon. His research made headlines around the world. But the big idea backfired. Corporations started planting rows of identical trees with disastrous results.

This is the story of how Tom and his team fought back and created a new model to show how biodiverse forests really can help tackle the climate crisis. Drawing on the work of scientists from around the world, from France to Costa Rica, this film presents a new vision of how healthy forests can have a significant impact on reducing global warming by maximising biodiversity.

Douglas Is Cancelled - Episode 4 Season Final

Sunday 22 December 8.00pm

The practice interview is underway. Douglas is faced with a woman who understands him better than even he suspected and a battle of wills and words begins.

Love Me Episode 4

Sunday 22 December 8.45pm

Dressed in a suit and tie, Aaron nervously interviews at a boutique law firm. He gets the clerkship, but Ella has news of her own – she’s going on tour and wants him to come along.

Clara arrives home to Peter in the kitchen and his belongings spread across her apartment – he’s moving in. But only while his flat is undergoing repairs.

At the resort, Anita and Glen share their first proper kiss. But Glen quickly becomes overwhelmed with guilt. Ever gracious, Anita says they can just be friends.

Sacha hosts dinner to welcome Peter into the fold. He’s a hit with the whole family, giving Clara pause – maybe he is as good as he seems. When they return home, Peter shares a secret he’s been holding onto. Clara is taken back by the lie and runs off to retrieve her mother’s ashes from the crematorium.

Meanwhile, Glen and Anita try their best to be ‘just’ friends, but neither of them really want that and it doesn’t last.

Aaron and Jesse clash about his life choices and his decision to give up the clerkship for Ella. And when he eventually finds Ella to tell her and declare his love, it’s too late.

In the morning, Aaron and Clara arrive at the airport, to pick up their dad. Glen appears, with a woman they’ve never seen in their lives – Anita. And it looks like he is smitten.

Tracy: A Force of Nature

Monday 23 December 7.30pm

Featuring never-before-told stories of survival and some of the ABC’s most incredible archival footage, Tracy is a moving and confronting testament to one of Australia’s worst ever natural disasters, narrated by Leigh Sales.

It was the darkest Christmas in Australia’s history.

Sixty-six dead, 41,000 left homeless, and 70 per cent of the northern capital destroyed.

Christmas Day 1974, and the once-tropical paradise of Darwin was reduced to rubble, razed to the ground as a severe tropical cyclone carved a path of destruction through the Top End, ripping homes from their foundations, tossing cars through the air, and snapping steel poles like matchsticks.

Small but intense, Cyclone Tracy was like no other system before, or after it, in Australia. Its unexpected path to the city saw winds reach 217 kilometres an hour, before all weather instruments were destroyed by the ferocity.

For those who lived through the terror that was Christmas Eve 50 years ago, their lives would never be the same. In this one-hour ABC special, survivors tell of the tragedy and triumph in the days, months and years that followed. From the terrifying moment the storm hit, to the carnage it left in its wake, to the mass evacuation of its population, and eventually, the determination it took to rebuild a city that was wiped out by nature.

Featuring never-before-told stories of survival against the odds and some of the ABC’s most incredible archival footage, Tracy is a moving and confronting testament to one of Australia’s worst ever natural disasters, told by those who were there in vivid detail.

Death in Paradise Christmas Special

Sunday December 29 7:30pm

It’s Christmas in the Caribbean and Neville’s larger-than-life mum, Melanie, is in town. She quickly assimilates herself in with the rest of the team, but she’s disheartened to see how down on romance Neville is, given everything he’s been through the past two years.

Can she instill some festive cheer in her unlucky-in-love son?

Elsewhere, a wealthy business owner called Gerry is found dead at the bottom of a ravine. It could just be an accident, but Gerry’s ominous last words – ‘It’s behind you’ – suggest something more is going on.

And things take an even stranger turn when the team discover that the family’s house guest has mysteriously vanished, prompting her fiancé to fly out on a rescue mission.

Love Me Episode 5

Sunday 29 December 9.00pm

Clara, Aaron and Glen take to the banks of the Yarra to scatter Christine’s ashes. And rather than take time in the moment, Glen runs off to see his new girlfriend, Anita.

In a spur of the moment decision whist picking up clothes for his weekend at Anita’s, Glen decides it’s time to pack up Christine’s belongings and take them to the charity shop.
At the hospital, Clara tells Sacha that Peter has moved out. Sacha calls out her behaviour – insisting she needs to work harder to hold onto Peter. Inspired by Sacha’s call to arms, Clara pops on some sexy lingerie and prepares to surprise Peter. But as he opens the door to find Clara draped across the bed, Peter reveals he has a surprise for her too – his son.

Ignoring Ella’s calls, Aaron meets Jesse for lunch. Jesse is always there for him, guiding him through his grief, relationship, and work issues. After receiving a call to invite him to dinner with his father’s new girlfriend, he asks Jesse to come for moral support.

As they all come together around Anita’s dining table, Glen takes the opportunity to deliver a very honest and emotional speech. He speaks about each of his children and their mother’s love for them, then Glen moves on to Anita, admiring her kindness and thoughtfulness. Out of nowhere, he proposes marriage. Anita says yes as Aaron cries and Clara sits in stunned silence, love challenging them all, yet again.

Later, as Jesse drops Aaron home she chastises him about his behaviour - she can see how happy Glen is – and insists you can’t help who or when you fall in love. In that moment, Aaron realises what has been under his nose – Jesse’s in love with him, she’s his soul mate. He kisses her.

But as Peter and Clara return home together things don’t go so smoothly. When Peter’s son Max has a moment alone with Clara, he lays it all out for her; he hasn’t had his father in his life for fifteen years and now she’s taking him away again. The reality startles Clara and she leaves without saying goodbye.

In the dark of night, Glen returns to the charity bins to retrieve Christine’s belongings – still very much grieving.

Monty Don’s Spanish Gardens

Friday 3 January 7.30pm

Monty visits spectacular gardens in the Central region of Spain from its important historic Imperial Palaces and modern designs adapted to the challenges of climate change.

Monty Don takes viewers on a three-part journey across Spain in a quest to visit some of the country’s most interesting gardens, community projects and parks.

Covering more than 4000 kilometres he’ll deep dive into green spaces ranging from historical to cutting edge as well as those created by a new wave of Spanish designers who are working more closely with the landscape and the challenges of the harsh climate.

Monty begins at the Escorial – a vast imposing palace and garden, built as a symbol of the power of Spain’s once huge empire that stretched across the globe. He then travels to the centre of the country’s capital, Madrid, to visit the city’s famous Retiro Park and Paseo del Prado. Here he visits a tropical garden in the unlikely setting of one of the city’s main railway stations, a modern garden created by and for dogs and a dynamic new school where nature and gardening play a central role.

Also, on this journey, Monty visits important towns like Toledo, once the capital of Spain, to discover gardens that reflect the rich cultural history of the country. As he travels around Castile, he also discovers modern gardens, including one made in an olive orchard, and another hewn out of some of the harshest landscapes in the whole of Spain.

Monty finishes the first part of this tour in Spain’s third largest city, Valencia, where locals defied plans to create a motorway and instead campaigned successfully to create a park for everyone to exercise, picnic, play and simply enjoy themselves in.

Here Monty gets on his bike to see for himself what a transformation this has been for those living in the heart of this big city.

Changing Ends - Season 2

Episodes 1&2 Wednesday January 1 at 8.30pm

The Carrs are back. Northampton, 1987 is shaping up to be the biggest year in Cobblers history, but can it live up to the hype for Nothampton’s favourite son Alan Carr? Following some genius signings from manager Graham Carr, the Cobblers sit proudly at the top of Division 4, with promotion a genuine possibility.

This however doesn’t mean Alan is having an easy ride at school, oh no, in fact things have taken a downturn, with Alan being bullied now more than ever. Adding to his woes are the minefield of puberty, the toe clenching school disco and the barrage of unwanted advances from Kay, meaning Alan is left navigating his way through school in a hormonal haze.

His life is as chaotic as the playground of Eastern Lovell but this time we get a tantalising glimpse of what Alan could be. There is an awakening happening in him, if he just believed in himself just like the Mighty Cobblers had done in the season of 1987, he too, could be in a league of his own.

Ep 1 The Cobblers are riding high, but the bullies are still making Alan’s life a misery. Peer pressure forces him to accept a challenge, leading him into the murky world of fake IDs.

Ep 2 Knickers are being snatched and windows are being peeped in - it seems the Close has a pervert. Alan eagerly decides to play detective, even if it clashes with his 12th birthday.
