ABC Sports Broadcasting

Do you reckon they signed the deal in the 4th than rushed out the door to announce it that morning?

According to online guides, ABC’s A-League telecast on Saturdays will start right at 5pm AEDT, meaning viewers will miss the preview, team line-ups, player entrances etc.

Maybe because if the ABC has gotten the rights for free as has been rumoured then Foxtel wants the free-to-air coverage to start as the match starts so that Foxtel still has the preview and warm up exclusively?

Tonight’s match between Australia and Nepal began at 8pm right on kickoff.

The match ended with one interview with a Socceroos player, then ended abruptly. No mention from the commentators of a “thank you for watching to the ABC viewers”. At least, when 10Bold aired the A-League last season, they thanked viewers for watching their coverage.

It’s not what I meant … however:

the ABC/Fox Sports deal for Football (Soccer) is a nasty one, ABC only provide clean feed of the Fox Sports feed, it’s very similar to how SBS and Fox Sports did A-League for (then ) ABC2.

Behind the scenes FFA and A-League reps (and all the clubs) are fuming and word is that the next broadcast deal anything Fox Sports offers will be rejected, the sporting bodies have had enough of the way News Corp have done them over in this at best awful deal.

The next deal is due for 21/22 season.

My understanding is that other sporting bodies were very carefully watching the behaviour of News Corp with this now debacle worked out.

Rhetorical question:
Would you do business with a company that is not prepared to honour the agreements of a binding contract?

Back in the day when they were offering bags more cash than everyone else, the answer was yes.

Depends on the context of the alleged breaches

Didn’t 10 get out of a binding contract with Formula 1?
Channel 7 also left the tennis deal 1 year early.

There wouldn’t be many more media companies left if they took that position.

SBS took the Fox clean feed but they used their own commentators and did their own pre/post-game & HT studio segments

Yes, however that was related to Ten going into administration

Who called the game the previous night on ABC?

Simon Hill & Andy Harper with contributions from Robbie Slater & Kevin Muscat (like the Fox coverage)

A-League game finished just before 7pm. No post-match anything. Literally flicked a switch.

Seemed like they were going to cut the coverage at 7pm no matter what, just like when they had the Hopman Cup.

It was a close call for ABC this afternoon. I wonder if the match kicked off just after 5pm or a few minutes later.

What happens at half time given they can’t show ads? Is there a studio half time analysis show?

ABC promos during the ad breaks

Sounds like they’re not spending a cent on this weekly match by using any ABC resources presenting it.

Seeing as ABC radio also covers the A League games could they not sync up the radio commentary with the Fox Sports video feed?
