ABC Sports Broadcasting

Previously, the ABC had used ABC Kids to show wnbl and w-league matches that have clashed with other live programming on the main channel. I think this is the first time that ABC ME is showing a sporting event.

According to online guides, A-League this Saturday (Sydney FC v Western Sydney Wanderers) will be shown on ABC ME on delay in SA, QLD, NT and WA, to avoid interrupting children’s programming in the afternoon.

How does that work when it’s still replacing usual programming? I guess the advantage is series won’t be out of sync, the same programmes are missed nationally.

On the other hand, good to see the golf live across the country and not delayed at in recent years.

This Friday (February 7), ABC will replay the women’s Olympic football qualifying match between Australia and Chinese Taipei from Sydney’s Campbelltown Stadium at 11.05pm.

Would it be that horrible to air it on ABC News? Keep the ticker on screen then put a news update in at half time. It’s mostly repeats at that time of day on the weekend.

I don’t think that’s possible as ABC News channel is also streamed worldwide on YouTube. The ABC only has domestic rights to the women’s Olympic football qualifiers.

Why air they replaying the “Australia Vs Chinese Taipai” match so late at 11.05pm on Friday?

They can at least get rid of the QI repeat at 10pm, air a shortened Late News at 10pm instead, and air the replay at 10.15pm… ?

Probably around the earliest they can I’d guess with the rights they have.

The rights the ABC has calls for them to air all Matildas matches live

Interesting, wonder why they’ve opted for delayed coverage then?

Hang on, they were expecting this to be in China right, perhaps that has something to do with it?

Just a hunch but perhaps it’s because they’re playing lowly-ranked teams who wouldn’t attract a big enough audience to pre-empt the main channel’s usual lineup

This Saturday’s A-League match between Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers will also be replayed in full on main channel at 10.10pm.

Pointless, I think. Every television tuner can get all the ABC channels. Very few people are watching the soccer at 5:00pm so who is going to want to watch a repeat late at night.

Probably those waiting for Rage to come on…

You’d think the SMH could mention it’s channel 23.

Bit then there’s this bloke on Twittrr:

Still in advance guides for both ME and late night replay.

The Matildas’ Olympic qualifying match against Thailand at Sydney’s Campbelltown Stadium next Monday night (February 10) will be replayed on main channel at 11.10pm, after ABC Late News.

While ABC TV is showing tonight’s game on delay, iView is streaming it live.

Not sure if this is a first but instead of just taking Fox’s coverage, the ABC broadcast will have its own commentary:

If this works well, the ABC will do it again next Monday night when the Matildas take on Thailand.
BTW, Sam Kerr is playing tonight as a substitute.

Don’t worry everyone. The A-League game this arvo (between Sydney and Western Sydney) has been postponed to another date, due to the wet weather.

So obviously, there will be no game on ABC and ABC- Me today.

Fourth playoff hope at the golf, will the news wait if necessary or cut off the golf like they do a league?

Update, left the golf but at least with a farewell, not bad given it’s not exclusive to the ABC.

Did non day light saving states continue?
