ABC Sports Broadcasting

Yes I heard that, but did she host today?

So are the ABC having their own coverage now?

ABC budget cuts to blame.

will anyone be watching?

Optus stole the W-League thunder this week with the announcement of English Woman’s Premier League (or what ever that comp is called)

Less people will watch the UK women’s soccer on Optus than the Australian competition on the ABC.

Most of Optus viewers will be watching Chelsea after Samantha Kerr signed a 2 1/2 year deal with the club last night.

Soccer I mean Football is so cold in Australia right now that no one cares about the domestic leagues.

Yes more viewers might watch but the reality is no one really cares about A/W Leagues right now.

It’s called soccer in Ireland, despite the long-standing claim (lie) by SBS that everywhere outside of Australia and the USA it was called football. So that’s good enough for me to continue to call it soccer.

what has that got to do with the price of fish?

I think a lot of people continue to call it soccer, including those in Football only nations.

I think calling it Football in Australia just blurs the branding. Should have stuck with Soccer and just pushed it as an alternative to the other football codes, when their seasons finish.

Some caps of ABC’s rebroadcast of Fox soccer coverage

So basically a straight feed from Fox Sports without their bug?

Do the hosts and commentators cut down on cross promotion or Fox Sports mentions during the broadcast, or is it all normal?

pretty much.

I partially saw the 1st game and from what I remember it was a near clean feed no mention of the pay TV company or logos.

According to The Australian, ABC cricket commentator Jim Maxwell has criticised his employer’s sporting coverage on TV. What could the ABC do when it had suffered funding cuts over the 20 years or so?

ABC took Sky Sports coverage for the A-League match in New Zealand:

Vic Open golf (simulcast with Fox Sports) and Women’s Australian Open (exclusive) coming up over the next two weeks. Looks like A League is bumped to ABC Me and no sign of W League in the schedule.

There is no W-League matches next weekend anyway because of the Women’s International Matches that are played during the week. Not sure what’s going to happen in two weeks time though.

The A-League being bumped to ABC Me for two weeks? Well, they’re probably getting similar ratings numbers to what’s on ABC ME at the moment anyway. lol.

I think ABC ME has been used to show other sporting events before, but I don’t think its regular viewers won’t be happy.
The women’s international matches are the Olympic qualification matches in Sydney involving Australia, China, Chinese Taipei and Thailand. The Matildas matches will be shown on ABC on delay and they are:
Friday February 7: Australia v Chinese Taipei (Campbelltown Stadium, 7.30pm AEDT)
Monday February 10: Thailand v Australia (Campbelltown Stadium, 7.30pm AEDT)
Wednesday February 12: Australia v China (Bankwest Stadium, 7.30pm AEDT)
The Australia-China game is still subject to change.
