That was quite a long lasting stuff up. Obviously a major malfunction.
newsradio is playing the ABC news daily podcast at 1:45pm weekdays.
slowly destroying the dip in / dip out USP of newsradio
News Radio has tweaked the early morning schedule on Mondays. It dropped the sports segment right before the 10 minute, 7am AEST bulletin and replaced it with another feature report.
Good, less sport is welcome.
News Radio Ballarat 94.3 has been dead air for at least the last hour or so.
Must be a local issue since 1026 Melbourne is fine. All other ABC services here (which are from Lookout Hill instead of Warrenheip where 94.3 is) are fine.
Didnât think to post this at the time but during last weekâs storms through Melbourne 1026 3PB was playing a loop with promo messages interspersed with a notice that the feed was unavailable.
Helps narrow down if its a tx or a programming feed problem (satellite link maybe in my case given the weather).
Technical note: I also notice in the ACMA RRL that the 1026 main tx power is now listed 14.5 kW up from 10 kW. Not sure how long itâs been that way.
No ACMA consultation document for the increase either?
Big loss for NewsRadio. Wonder who will take over drive. Maybe Laura Tchilinguirian?
Dear ABC, thank you for the privilege of working here.

Dear Listener, thank you for making it worthwhile.
I've read my last ABC bulletin and am leaving the building.
I wish you well. pic.twitter.com/c2zcbvM3lZ
That makes departures of three experienced presenters from the ABC in Melbourne in less than one month: Mary Gearin, News Breakfastâs Madeleine Morris, and now Glen Bartholomew.
According to his bio on the ABC website, Glenâs been based in Sydney since moving to News Radio. A substantial loss nonetheless.
Itâs NewsRadioâs 30th birthday today.
Happy 30th, ABC NewsRadio!
NewsRadio team August 1994: L-R Russell Powell, Vanessa Meyer, Paul Vincent, Kendal Hodgman, Ian Wolfe, Julian Brophy, Di Francis, Stuart Gary, Russell Stendell, Belinda Doyle, Bernadette Skuse, Bud Eastley.
ABC NewsRadio, the nationâs only live and continuous radio news network, today celebrates 30 years as a rolling news service. And itâs in its prime, with strong audiences reaching nearly 6% of the population.
âIn a period of immense change, I think we can all be proud of a service that has withstood the test of time,â said Tanya Nolan, ABC Managing Editor, Audio News & Current Affairs.
âItâs become an essential service for many, bringing Australians trustworthy, timely and comprehensive news and analysis, as it happens.
âA huge thank you to the NewsRadio team for driving that success and for delivering for Australians news they can trust, each and every day.â
NewsRadioâs origins lie in the Parliamentary Proceedings Broadcasting Act of 1946, which required the ABC to broadcast on radio the proceedings of the House of Representatives and the Senate, a statutory obligation we still have today.
In 1988, the ABC moved live parliamentary broadcasting from Local Radio onto a new station dedicated to broadcasting live sessions of both houses of Federal Parliament, called the Parliamentary Broadcasting Network.
PBNâs remit was expanded in 1994, with the ABC taking advantage of the networkâs national reach to launch a rolling news service on the days when parliament was not sitting. It became PNN, the Parliamentary and News Network.
ABC NewsRadio, as we now know it, was born.
Initially only available in the nationâs major cities, its coverage quickly grew to take in regional centres and remote areas. Today, NewsRadio has a network of 84 AM/FM transmitters, reaching an estimated 97.04% of Australians.
You can also hear NewsRadioâs continuous news service every day online via the ABC Listen website and ABC Listen app and on digital radio (DAB+).
Its TV audio channel on TV has further extended its reach to another 420 transmitters around the country.
Even in the most remote corners of the country, you can hear NewsRadio via the direct-to-home satellite service (VAST).
ABC NewsRadioâs Thomas Oriti spoke with ABC Director, News Justin Stevens about the legacy of the station and whatâs in store for its future. Listen here.
The station logo changed yesterday coinciding with the ABC launching new graphics for its news services. This is from ABC listen app.
Assume News Radio still uses itâs weird and kinda awful music and not some form of majestic fanfare or the TV theme like they should?
Still broadcasting the old logo on DAB
Majestic Fanfare for the TOH bulletins, and their own music (launched 2021 maybe?) for everything else.
Jim regularly gets upset about these things on Twitter, particularly a bias (in his eyes) towards AFL in ABC news bulletins. He was ranting the other week about them not giving Shute Shield scores in the news updates - a competition literally no-one outside of Sydneyâs wealthy eastern fringe even knows of, let alone cares about.
Though he did make a valid point this morning about the ABC news not even noting Australiaâs ODI win over England overnight, a game the ABC was providing coverage of (from BBC Test Match Special). Talk about failing to promote your own product.
