They really need chairs in the studio. It looks like Jeremy is telling her off and made her stand in a corner - it’s so bad.
They’re trying to connect her to the other guests (ie Jeremy + a panel of 4) but she’s just left in a limbo half-way between both because the desk doesn’t reach that far.
I don’t think modifying the desk to accommodate stools is worthwhile given this set is probably never going to be used for anything other than 7pm news once the news channel set is finished.
no
How long has ABC News NSW been in HD?
Is the 7pm bulletin now in native HD? If so, I’m slighly annoyed that I missed out on an historic moment in Sydney TV!
I was under the impression that the control room is (or was?) the main thing keeping ABC News NSW in upconverted SD. Although the Holden demise special was in native HD, I just assumed a different control room was used for that one similar to how there was an occasion some time back when the national 12pm ABC News bulletin was in native HD from Studio 23 while the 7pm bulletin was not.
Pretty sure it is native HD. Looks great.
Screencaps of tonight’s ABC News Sunday NSW…now in native HD it seems:
It’s not just the studio camera shots and graphics - reports appear to be in full 1080i as well!
I have to say that although the overall presentation hasn’t changed, HD makes for a major visual improvement to ABC News NSW on the blurry upconverted SD bulletins we’ve had previously. While @lexington will probably disagree, this upgrade now makes 10 News First having live studio camera shots/graphics as the only HD elements during their Sydney/national bulletins (with everything and everywhere else for news on that network entirely in upconverted SD) look very outdated!
Possibly because I uploaded those copies to a channel which closed down at the end of 2018.
Not sure how you tell that something is HD or if it is up-converted as you suggest.
These elements “looked” HD to me today for example on 10 News First.
That compares to Nine Brisbane’s HD operation with similar crosses in today’s bulletin.
I’m usually VERY good at spotting whether something is in native HD or upconverted SD - video in the latter format generally has a blurry or pixellated look compared to full 1080i.
OK, so some live crosses on 10 News First are also in HD - I’ll take that as a correction!
But all of their pre-recorded packages (including News Updates and some other elements) are still upconverted SD.
Ah, so I was right.
I wonder when it happened? We all missed it!
I agree.
Possibly this weekend or last? From memory, ABC News Victoria quietly went HD on a Saturday night in March so perhaps something similar happened with the NSW bulletin.
Going by the caps @Abesty posted in the News Channel thread, this morning’s Weekend Breakfast (also done in Studio 23 at Ultimo, is that where it’s usually presented from?) was in native HD on the main channel.
Weekend Breakfast has been in the NSW studio for a while now. It’s because there is no News Channel set at the moment.
Has Weekend Breakfast been in native HD for a while though? That would probably give us a clue as to whether there’s been a control room upgrade or it’s a case of a different control room (probably the one used for The Drum - which I believe has been in HD since October of last year) being used for that program and others from Studio 23 like the recent Holden demise special.
Yeah it has. I noted it here roughly a month ago?
I’ll go check.
Edit: I noted it Feb 9 in the news channel thread.
Interesting. February 9 was also the same day ABC News Victoria got their new/current set, so maybe NSW had a HD switch on that night to coincide with the change down South? Although I feel like that’s something which would’ve been mentioned on these forums at the time if it really happened.
Might have to watch tomorrow night’s 7pm NSW bulletin to see if that’s in native HD along with The Drum!
I don’t think so.
In any case, what’s with your fascination with the 2015-17 ABC News 24 Idents? Aside from the footage of the reporters used, I thought they were all pretty much the same between 2010 and 2017!
I suppose the real question is: Why do you need them and what do you need them for?
You’ve asked multiple times and no one has responded so clearly no one does. If you’re so worried about them, just contact the ABC or your state library for archived videos!
Just confirming the weekday 7pm NSW is in native HD.
