ABC News Content and Appearance

Yep - in the past, the 7pm bulletin during industrial action was read by a state editor (likely came down to whichever state had enough staff do crew a bulletin).

I don’t think so - when they stopped airing BBC bulletins overnight, it was around the same time the geo-restrictions were removed on the YouTube stream for the ABC News Channel, so if anything, was probably more with not risking breaching other contracts the BBC may have in different countries.

When they’ve taken BBC coverage for royal events, they’ve usually switched off the live stream.

Odd that they’ve gone with the BBC when DW’s feed doesn’t essentially have any copyright on it. Methinks the BBC have either waved any limitations on the presumption that it’s a once off or they’ll cut out the YouTube stream

Foxtel hasn’t carried BBC News in years though - it’s now FTA on BBC.com

It’s still on Fetch.

Can you please explain about DW not having copyright?

They had a very lax arrangement which meant that most networks could obtain their feed for free and with hardly any restrictions, hence why quite a few community stations had DW bulletins on their schedule

Is it true that BBC is running the ABC?

Not running - ABC just taking their feed while staff are on industrial action for 24 hours.

One of the commercial networks should take advantage of the absence of the 7pm ABC News tonight by running a special 7pm bulletin.

Still quite a few stories being uploaded on ABC News online.

I was thinking more of older viewers who will tune in at 7pm for their nightly news, and may not know how to use the catch-up streaming services to watch 7, 9 or 10 News instead.

Must be the skeleton staff who wrote and posted the stories online.

That and/or usage of newswires. Either way, they’re living up to their promise “for the latest news”.
