ABC News Content and Appearance

100% this. Would’ve looked terrible. You can see they’ve used the pill subtly in other spots. The riser and top of the desk are both in that shape.

The squared front of the desk helps break it up.

The screen behind the presenter is one big screen with no gaps. It’s just the graphic has gaps added (I think they’re attempting a window pane look - the graphic also has railings down the bottom which you can see from side on).

I’m pretty sure that is still a screen though. Because when the Parramatta Square image is in use it takes up most of the screen. So i’m guessing they just use the networked graphics and put the blue background around it so it doesn’t look blank?

We can see it’s one screen - the point is that there aren’t gaps between the screens - it’s just the Paramatta background made to look like a series of windows.

The picture was used to demonstrate that it’s one screen - I never said that it wasn’t one screen.

Apologies, i thought you were the one who originally posted about the gaps being real.

Love the set

Having watched though they really don’t make use of it. It feels very static and un-dynamic to me.

They need be shooting the news channel from here - and reimagining the whole channel as a streaming first type service based on NBC News now for a younger generation of viewers.

If ABC wants to remain relevant they need to be thinking of ways to engage younger people. The 7pm news and news breakfast and news channel in their current formats are not it

Still early day’s - they are using brand new technology that they haven’t used before - I say after summer they will start experimenting with AR.

I also expect that they will at one point shift a NC shift (likely mornings) over as well.

That would be me.

At this stage, there will be national 7pm bulletins on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day - all three are listed to be presented by Jeremy Frenandez from Melbourne.

WA will still have local editions on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, presented by Brianna Shepard from the Perth studios.

All three national editions will also air on the News Channel, with the NSW bulletin also airing on the News Channel on December 23.

They must of heard the outcry from us last year!

This instantly trumps Sunrise and Today’s fast ageing dark dungeony setups. The lighting and wall features are much better designed and implemented.

Also this is the first time I’ve actually enjoyed the new graphics package. The set design compliments it very well.

While money is a big factor, this sets a new standard for Aussie tv news sets. Similar to Nine when they rolled out the consistent set in 2016.

Thing is, it’ll be used for a NSW only bulletin & two NC shifts.
Should be used for News Breakfast in 2025 IMO.

Isn’t it more productive to take advantage of having resources in other cities and not just having everything centralised to the main studios?

News Breakfast is also the only brekky/morning show not to come out of Sydney, offering a point of difference to Seven and Nine.

It’s not in Melbourne though

Exactly - should be more shows and shifts done from other states IMO.
