6pm update last night.
Wow. This puts the 7 standing area to shame. Gorgeous.

Watching the new Parramatta based bulletin tonight for the first time tonight, and it struck me just how big the studio is, and how big the desk is.
You could probably seat 12 people at that desk and have a 5 course banquet on it, no problem whatsoever.
Would love to see the timber flooring extend fully along the desk riser. It feels incomplete with just that end portion covered, full timber would bring a little warmth to the set.
Yeah a bit odd when there is a half timber
There’s also part of the closing theme in this video.
If anything, 7.30 should come out of the Parliament House studio in Canberra fulltime.
Has anyone gone to peer through the Parramatta window lately? There’s some slats that were closed when I last walked past, but maybe they’ll be open now the studio has been unveiled.
Someone posted somewhere here with the blinds opened showing half of the set a few months ago. It looked completed too.
Also @anthonyeden, you’ve probably said before, but i’ve forgotten, How many TV studiosare in the Parramatta building? That’s if you know of course!
More than they’ve shown so far
maybe the ABC could trial a dual presenter thing for the 7pm bulletins with that much space
There is almost enough room to have a different presenter for each story!
Haha. That’s one of the funniest lines I’ve ever read on this forum. Love it.
Why? What a waste of money that would be that they don’t have.
I think that would look bubbly and comical with a desk being that shape maybe they tried it and it looked odd
It being the ABC, I doubt they would’ve put that much thought into it. However, it makes the desk and set more versatile if 7:30/NB/panel show was to use it for whatever reason.
A large physical ABC logo on the front of the desk, without ‘news’, would’ve been very effective.
The pill graphic is stupid anyway, the logo they claim to be referencing has flat ends.
Overall, the set is a big step up for the ABC and a huge improvement on the old NSW set in Ultimo. From day one there was a lot about that set that was not quite right - their incompetence at studio lighting at Ultimo being one of them.
I expect we’ll see the panning shots and effort made for standing news to quickly disappear to one locked on standing shot at the start. ABC Vic used all kinds of great angles when the current set first launched, now Tam or Isk barely get out from the desk, even at the start of the bulletin.
I do think the weak spot is the physical gaps between screens, the long straight lights are a missed opportunity to do something fun and clever with the ABC logo. They could’ve had the logo repeated all over those pillars with every few lit up or something.
The Parramatta backdrop is a downgrade - at the very least it should be a lightwell graphic using the Parramatta river and their usual tricks to add movement and interest into the graphic.
Now we just need a shift or two of the NC to move in. And surely 7:30 can share too? If Jez finishes the bulletin at the desk, Sarah can start at the newswall?
