ABC News Content and Appearance

Seems to be currently underutilised. Hopefully there are plans to use this outside the 30 minutes a night.

Great looking set for the new Parramatta studio.

I think ABC News Channel will continue with its current set at Ultimo for the time being.

I kind of like the backdrop. The look at least. Im not phased about what it is actually of (place).

Deffo something Sunrise/Today should be doing.

This was never posted here, but it seems like they gave a good sneak preview of the set on Saturday night at the end of the final bulletin from Ultimo.
Some great wideshots here.

Plan is for the national teams to continue to be based at Ultimo, however, they have mentioned in the past that they were planning to do one of the NC shifts from Paramatta. Given the morning team uses (and still is) the now old NSW Set, I guess they will be waiting to make sure everything is running smoothly before they possibly move it over, since AR elements aren’t ready yet, and that this is the first time they are controlling and producing a bulletin with IP only I still say they are first of all making sure everything works before adding extra stuff to the product.

Also an indication that other states could get a similar look down the line, or at least similar technology:

I’m stuck between loving the new Parramatta set, but also being sad that it breaks completely from the design language built up in every other city’s set.

NSW still just has to be different to everyone else! :joy:

but surely this is the birth of the next generation of sets? gotta start somewhere.

The press release hints this - or at least that the technology used will be implemented in other states.

damn, would’ve thought they would at least move Midday Report to Parramatta too…

so odd that the new set is just used tor the local 7pm bulletin

Still, the bulk of the current generation of ABC sets were installed throughout 2022, turning only 3 years old next year. It’s unlikely they’ll be replaced again for quite some time.

It would’ve been nice to see some design elements carried over to Parramatta, even with a completely different layout.

By the time they introduced the 2019 era sets to them, the 2014 sets were 8 years old - given they usually take their time, I say it won’t be till the end of the decade until all states move onto the next generation of ABC sets (if they do get the new sets that is).

The unique Ultimo set came in 2019, but the current design generation started in Melbourne 2020.

By the time the current sets reach their end of life and get upgraded, they’ll likely be on the next-next generation of sets separate from Parramatta.

Fair enough - Sydney did seem like it was the prototype set that somehow made it to air, and the Melbourne set onwards was the refined product.

Will be interesting though how (if they do get new sets) adapt the set for smaller studios (such as Darwin), as well as Melbourne where they need to incorporate a soft set for News Breakfast, BTN in Adelaide, and Insiders in Canberra.

I notice that the ABC News app on my mobile phone has been updated. The homepage and the articles now share the same look as the desktop version.

Mines been like that since the rebrand?

Is it possible that the News Channel might move into the Fomer Sydney Studio at Ultimo?

It already uses that studio so i don’t see why not.
