Looks wonderful!

The vertical screen must be on wheels as it’s been facing different ways each time i’ve seen it.

Also the opening was awkward. I assume it might have been a technical difficulty as the movement was nice and smooth during the live cross (using the vertical screen). Opposed from the slow still zoom during the intro.

Also do they really need to do a zoom after every single story? I’m getting vertigo!

Other than that it’s pretty good. 100x better then anything in the Ultimo building.

I think they also jumped to the titlecard too early at the end of the intro (unless that was just iView on my end).

Must be, I wasn’t paying much attention, but it looks normal to me.

How good would Weekend Breakfast be in this Studio!

Nevermind - was just iView on my end - rewind the stream and there were no issues with the intro

Speaking of Breakfast, I would be really interested to see how the Melbourne team, if they ever get this set, modify it to incorporate the News Breakfast soft set - doubt they will any time soon though.

The weather transition was nice, but i can hear the camera moving and it’s not very nice…

Well, after the first bulletin has gone to air, what do you think of the new NSW Set:

  • Signficant improvement from the old one
  • A great improvement, but a thing or too could be changed
  • Just as good as the old set
  • Worse than the old set

For me, it is definitely one of the better sets we’ve seen from the ABC - various presenting areas, no bad standing desk. I do like some of the sweeping shots they use during story introductions, however, I can see why some people might not like them, and I noticed one or two time’s they weren’t needed.

Overall, very good effort from the ABC - however, as I mentioned earlier, shame they didn’t do something like this in Ultimo, rather than spending all the extra money moving staff to Paramatta. I also hope that eventually each state can get a set like this, though it probably won’t happen due to budget pressures.

Looks like you got your harbour iconography @Snoozenooze! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

On the topic of the background, hopefully they also show off other areas of NSW every now and then, since it’s ABC News New South Wales.

I’m curious - what’s wrong with the standing desks? Call me ignorant but for some reason the ABC really likes presenters standing for 30 minutes - does it just not fit the aesthetic of the studio?

I should’ve clarified - the issue I have is with that the now previous NSW desk was bad - for some states it looks good, but NSW’s was particularly bad.

Previous post has been amended

the cold shot of the set from the right hand side at the start of the bulletin made me feel physically uncomfortable when watching it - I know the ABC doesn’t have a tendency to use voiceovers in their news bulletins but maybe they could ditch the presenter cut at the start and use a V/O?

Yeah I see where your going. I think the weird vertical screen slapped on the front of the NSW Ultimo desk just makes it look bad while the others look better - you could also say that for Victoria’s desk but theirs isn’t standing :man_shrugging:

idk what I’m yapping about

Why?

Set looks fantastic! Just don’t get the jumbled up Parra streetside graphic backdrop.

Wish this was the set for 7.30, News Channel and Breakfast

Set looks great (dare say one of the best in the country?)… but only using it for one half hour bulletin seems a big miss.

The old NSW set still being used for mornings today - not sure if they are just going to have one studio devoted to it, or if they are eventually going to shift it to either the NC Studio or possibly Paramatta

I was thinking the same. Seems like they took some inspiration of elements from the 7 and 9 sets.
Half an hour a day of this set is a crime.

I think 10 may still remain as my favourite but this is definitely in the top 2. Looks outstanding.

Set also gives off some BBC Studio B vibes.

I do wonder though WHY they’ve gone for a different looking set to every other one they’ve got (which seem pretty consistent to me).

One can only hope this is the prototype for set replacement/upgrades over the next year elsewhere.

It’s been about 5 years since they introduced the current generation of ABC News sets, the previous ones were introduced around 2014 (bar the QLD, WA and NC sets which were introduced earlier), and also lasted around 5 years before NSW got their now old set.

Still though, seems to be a lot of money for half an hour when they could’ve just done the same thing or something similar in Ultimo.
