Maybe they could close Ultimo and move everything there and have a small office and flash studio in the city. Save some money. No need for two massive locations in the one city.

Parramatta skyline makes no sense.

It’s a NSW bulletin.

The backdrop should cycle through various NSW imagery.

Putting a local Parramatta for what’s meant to be a state wide news service makes no sense.

Why not cycle through images of NSW: Coastal, Inland, Parra, Newcastle, Sydney and Highlands within a week.

It’s not even the parra skyline - it’s a parra street scape. So even more hyper local

They should keep the 7pm bulletin in the smaller Pyrmont studio and do news Channel and breakfast out of this huge wrap around set where they can show it off and utilise it

Not a state bulletin

Since the 2010s refresh the ABC bulletins have always used a cityscape of the city that they’re based in. Nothing new.

They’ve used iconic city skylines along with other state wide imagery.

Using a suburban street scape or a suburban city is certainly very new

It kind of does - all of this is shift out to Parramatta is virtue signaling aimed at the Western Sydney audience that thinks that the ABC is too Eastern Suburbs.

There’s a lot of negativity in this thread, but I want to focus on some positives.

The ABC has got some beautiful studio spaces in Parramatta now (more than Jeremy has shown in this video). I don’t know when it’ll all be used or what it’ll be used for, but they have some versatile spaces. I can’t wait to see it start to show up on our screens.

I’m impressed what they’ve managed to cram into an office building.

Edit: The other thing worth remembering is what the ABC has said about the finances of this endeavour. The ongoing running costs are expected to be cost-neutral, as the ABC will be leasing out spare office space at Ultimo and using this to pay for Parramatta. The establishment costs came from the sale of other Sydney property.

When did the ABC stop the seperate feeds? That probably explains why it’s a bit hard to get a really good signal from the ABC in Colac, whether from Warrion Hill (Colac) or Ballarat Lookout Hill. Yep, when I was in Maccas Colac one time, I noticed a heap of pixelation on the ABC (the channel they had it turned on to at the time).

Ignoring the fact they have a transmitter at Highton. That’s unless it’s pointless to have such transmitter running in Highton and maybe just forcing residents across all of Geelong to aim for Mount Dandenong, that’s if they’re not already doing so.

IDK but it was sometime before 2020

That’ll do me. :joy::joy:

I’m not sure why you think the lack of separate feeds to regional Victoria would have any impact on the signal strength. It hasn’t changed. Only the program input feed to the transmitters. Which has nothing to do with each station’s ERP.

They could potentially the national bulletins that are typically broadcast from the NSW set move to Parramatta

but regardless I personally like the new Parramatta set a lot. Reminds me of the BBC London and 7 Sydney set.

Agreed. The new Parramatta set looks 100x better than what is currently used in Ultimo.

I would love to see the day time bulletins use the new space. Hopefully the Afternoon shift.

Most likely the morning shift as it’s the one that uses the NSW set

Apart from the Paramatta backdrop (which doesn’t look that good), it’s actually a very decent set. Shame they didn’t do something like this in Ultimo instead of wasting money moving stuff a couple of kilometres west

Looks great. Already being to good use with effective storytelling and camera angles, use of screens etc.

Great set despite the unnecessary move to parramatta to appease whingers who will complain no matter what the ABC chooses to do.
