ABC News Content and Appearance

Isn’t that just the new colour for ABC News?

Looks a bit brighter in that cap, with white writing i’m not a fan - hard to read.

Keeping the existing black ones would’ve been fine IMO, just need updating with new ones and consistent across the board.

Agreed. Or a darker blue, similar to the title cards.

What a power presenting duo! More of this please!

Definitely helps makes the bulletins less stale - was the same with the BBC when they had dual presenters on the weekday daytime bulletins.

ABC News is scheduled from 7pm - 7:47pm tonight.

Is that usual for a Friday?

Only in Queensland - would be for the state election - they occasionally extend the news on the eve of state elections, especially in the larger states.

All other states have news from 7pm-7:32pm tonight.

Of course. Perhaps final interviews with the two leaders?

No doubt - wouldn’t be surprised if there were on all the networks tonight making their final pitch’s.

I noticed throughout and at the end of last nights QLD bulletin, Ellen kept reminding viewers to tune in from 6pm tonight for the election coverage.

Strange they didn’t mention that tonight’s news bulletin will be airing at 5:30pm. If viewers tune in from 6pm they’ve missed the news of the day.

New images have been introduced to the intro for the NSW and morning bulletins, now the images are a little bit more localised instead of the random generic videos from Pond5 (yes I checked)

My other pet peeve here is that some of the images are static and not videos which makes the overall feel of the intro a little bit off…

P.S. I’m probably being really nit-picky here by taking a single shot of the Harbour Bridge and calling that “localised” but oh well.

These really should be images of the top stories like the previous package had.

I personally prefer the 2010-ish approach of having set localised images for each bulletin … and it also seems like the WA and Tasmanian bulletins haven’t changed the images at all

Cheap and nasty execution

Opener in Victoria has been buggy/failed every night so far this week. Headline strap comes up, screen goes to black then they cut to the presenter to finish the pre-titles intro.

One night was bad enough but multiple times is pretty not okay. If there’s computer gremlins, adapt and do the whole thing from the news wall without overlay graphics.

On a happier note, Victoria is bothering to check which opener they are playing out and more often than not they are playing the correct opener with local imagery, time stamps and the blue cutout shape for headlines.

Isk just needs to stick to darker suits. Hosting the news about a child being killed in a maroon or teal suit really isn’t appropriate. Oh, and a weather presenter would be nice.

Sorry if it’s already been stated, but is (or has) the ABC implemented new microphone signage covers?

Saw one tonight on Channel 9 with a Light blue cover box.

Yep - mentioned here:

Thank you. I’m surprised they didn’t implement the same ones as Seven, Nine and Sky.

They do have generic one’s similar to Seven and Nine with just the ABC logo on the mic socket - probably means those one’s can be used on local radio, etc. They also have one’s with the previous 2017 logo on them that.
