Alan Sunderland can hardly be considered as independent - he held a senior role within the broadcaster at the time of the report.
Also mentioned during Senate estimates hearing yesterday:
LOL this was my FOI request! Not gonna lie, I was a bit miffed by the rebrand (ABC News but Fisher Price?) and was curious how much it cost … didn’t expect the request to get picked up by The Guardian bahahah

Went to a dead link and the old site UI appeared yet the bubbles are blue hovering over the menu bar icons.
Well done ABC.

Amsterdam Violence
News: On Saturday 9 November TV News broadcast a story on the violence on the streets of Amsterdam following a football match between the Israeli team, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Dutch team, Ajax. It included vision supplied by an independent news agency that purported to show Maccabi supporters being attacked. The ABC has been subsequently informed by the agency that the description of the vision was incorrect. The ABC has removed the story from its platforms.

I revisited Redbee’s project page the other day to reflect how the current graphics package is settling in: ABC News Brand Refresh - ABC News Australia | Red Bee
There’s really a lot of promise had ABC Made actually implemented this package well. I think we can all agree that the weakest part of the new graphics is the opener (date card, title sequence, title card).
Looking back on Redbee’s work, it’s clear this should be the very start of the opener:
This should then be the post headlines title sequence and title card:
The beginning of the bulletin explains the concept of the graphics to the audience, it doesn’t waste time with an unnecessary date stamp, it uses the correct shade of blue, and it actually flows!
The title sequence and tile card uses clearer shapes from the logo, a better palette of colours and again flows really well.
Obviously the ABC chose to do something else which is genuinely quite bad, ugly and embarrassing, especially the date and title cards which jump on and off the screen with no thought to context or flow, use the wrong shade of blue and remove necessary queues to the audience on the design of the graphics. The title sequence we ended up with does not have the same depth or polish to come close to being superior to what we missed out on.
Of course, this could all be fixed very quickly by the ABC if they cared and would acknowledge the serious shortcomings of how they implemented the package.
The logo animation that we all called awkward, makes so much sense when it’s in time with the final beat of the theme!
is this studio only for ABC News or will Breakfast move over in the coming weeks?
