ABC News Content and Appearance

Queensland & WA have pretty old sets now though, introduced in 2012 & 2013 respectively I’d say the both of them would benefit from an upgrade after NSW, Victoria & the news channel.

It reminds me of Channel 9. It wouldn’t be cheap either. All the networks seem to be investing in their sets these days. A big increase to what we use to see.

You’d have to think the news channel will move over to this new set as well. The 6pm hour can come from elsewhere (either within Ultimo or send it over to Perth).

There are two screens in the desk so it hasn’t been designed exclusively for a solo bulletin (ie Nine in Sydney/Melbourne only has one screen facing the main side of the desk).

Well, I suppose it’s worth posting a cap of tonight’s ABC News NSW weather segment since it was probably Graham Creed’s last forecast in front of the chroma key before the new set launches:

Late News was from Perth tonight with Michael Tetlow:

As we look forward to 7pm tomorrow night and the start of an exciting new era in the 62.5 years (and a bit) history of ABC News NSW, a couple of screencaps from tonight’s final bulletin from the temporary set-up they’ve been using for the past few weeks:

New backdrop design :eyes:

A local image of Sydney or NSW rather than a generic Chinese-looking city would have been a good place to start with that new title graphic…

Aside from the backdrop image (which I agree, needs to be of a more identifiable image from Sydney or NSW), the ABC News Sunday logo overlay looks interesting…

Hopefully we might see some multiple camera angles throughout the bulletin

It sort if looks like the blue in the white bars mimic the new desk style.

This set took surprisingly long to replace

IIRC, SBS World News managed to replace their set over a few days when they did their rebrand in 2017

I think its got more to do with rehearsals and ensuring that staff adapt to the new set, rather than how long the set took to construct…

But not as long as Nine which took several months from memory.

Seven and 10 both took a week but didn’t appear to do any technical upgrades.

What a fancy opener.

Looks so good.

Need to see how they use it but puts Seven firmly in last place set-wise in Sydney (again!).

Angle transition is shocking.

Shit lighting as per usual for the ABC. All very grey and washed out - not helped by the colours of the set.

Juanita looking very uncomfortable.
