ABC News Content and Appearance

It is, but i still think it looks a bit out of place. Mind you I’m pretty sure more shows come from the Melbourne set than they do from the actual Sydney set.

To me, it’s fairly obvious that ABC Melbourne will eventually get a new set design that’s exactly the same (or at least very similar, obviously Melbourne will need some form of couch area for News Breakfast, Insiders & Outsiders!) to the one ABC Sydney is getting.

The other states/territories may have to get something that’s based on the main Sydney/Melbourne design but on a smaller scale because they all only have one news studio AFAIK. Would be cool if Behind The News and any similar programming among those lines on ABC ME were to one day share the same set (while still keeping their own branding of course) as ABC News SA though.

As far as I’m aware, the Melbourne set is home to Victoria’s 7pm bulletin, News Breakfast, Insiders & Outsiders while the Sydney set in Studio 23 will be home to the NSW 7pm bulletin, the national 12pm bulletin and maybe The Drum?

What I definitely know for sure is that the production of all Sydney-based news & current affairs programs on the ABC are spread out across multiple studios at Ultimo.

The drum got a new set this year from what I recall, but I wouldn’t have a clue which studio its in.

Yeah, what I meant was from the shows that come out of ABC Sydney, most of them aren’t actually using the 7PM set. Hence, why I asked the need for huge desk if there is very little coming out of there

Plus PM briefing, The World and the late edition news. Midday news moved to the news channel set ages ago. The Drum is done in the 7PM news studio, roughly where the weather used to be presented.

There was also vision of an AFL story, before the Miriam and the wet wipes bit.

Here’s a couple of caps from it this morning. I’m trying to get the cross from ANZAC Day too where ABC Hobart went from the national ABC News feed to the local Hobart march which started at 11 - the other cities started at 9 so we’d kept with the News 24 feed on the main channel.

Must be a big upgrade with HD too then.

TBH, I’m slightly relieved that the ABC News NSW new set didn’t launch at a time I’m in the Newcastle TV market where my main focus is naturally going to be on NBN News! :stuck_out_tongue:

And yes, I realise that I could’ve always watched the regional version of ABC NSW I’m currently receiving here. But I’ve been through enough relaunches over the years to know there’s always a bit extra buzz if you’re in a particular market for a relaunch compared to watching it from a distance, which is what I had to do when ABC News NSW’s 2014 set launched while on a Central Coast trip!

Seems like the Northern Territory bulletin is finally listening to their viewers. There has been a recent spike in local content, as well as studio interviews with journos (rarely seen) in Tuesday’s bulletin and additional live crosses. Hopefully, they keep it up this time…

Queensland last night with Jessica in Townsville seat of Herbert and standing presentation for early part of bulletin.

Anyone think we will get the new NSW set tonight?

No change still? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d be willing to predict that the new set will go live just after the Federal Election.

Man that looks terrible. Those black lines are so cheap and messy.
