Might have something to do with the NSW news is being moved to Paramatta.
“ABC Parramatta will include a state-of-the-art studio, from where we’ll broadcast the NSW 7pm News and at least one block of News Channel programming"
Probably depends on how much it costs to either move it or build a new one, especially with budget pressures. Would rather they got a new one tbh, or at least better lighting.
If they were building all-new infrastructure in Parramatta then there wouldn’t be a need to move from the facilities in Ultimo pre-emptively would there? My understanding is also that the News channel will remain at Ultimo?
But the new building is complete and tenants have already started moving in, so it’s not far away whether related to this or not.
Apparently the new studio in Parramatta is at street level and has windows if we have anybody local on the forum who gets a chance to wander past.
Might be cheaper to move the existing set than build a new one perhaps, especially if they aren’t going to use Studio 23 at Ultimo anymore, and with ongoing budget pressures.
Who thinks that the ABC should produce a 6:30pm bulletin covering national and international stories? And then the 7:00pm bulletin covers state stories. It’s an absolute joke that they call the 7:00pm bulletin a state bulletin with a capital city backdrop and a local weather forecast but with too much national and international stories over state stories.
The 7pm bulletin in its current state has its own problems (and quite a few of them) but the proposal’s never going to happen since:
They’re in the mode of cutting costs, they’re not going to add another bulletin which is the same information broadcast in all the local bulletins.
As it stands they have problems filling the 30 minute bulletin with a good amount of local stories. Splitting the two types of news will only make the problem worse and make the bulletin look like a glossed up version of WIN News (let’s not go there).
If there was a demand for a bulletin that covers national and international news bulletin people would be watching SBS News or the ABC News Channel. But they definitely need to increase local news, especially since they have a network of over 50 newsrooms across the country. We are also still waiting for a launch date for their digital first Stateline project
Because the ABC are too obsessed with covering national and international stories. It’s not that hard to get their capital city based reporters to file more local stories.
Would be a good idea, however it depends on how much it costs. They would have to install web cams in cities that don’t have them and employ staff for graphics, and make-up. The ABC TV stations are also state based feeds, which means that the local traffic updates and some content would be irrelevant to regionals, as they get their own local breakfast, and regional statewide/semi-regional drive shows.
Good idea in principal, but would require a lot of money and work.
