ABC News (Channel)

I hope it’s just a bad angle cause it looks very underwhelming.

Lets just say there is a big screen and I hope they aren’t using the old background loop…

But it does appear to be a 270 degree set. So fingers crossed what’s being shown is only one part. I feel it is.

Can they get rid of that awful background please! I’m begging them to!!

Why are there still microphones popping out of the new desk? They don’t even use them. And no one has had that look today, or indeed since the 90s!

Could be a backup Incase the lapel mics die on air?

I imagine that backdrop is just there for testing considering the one we saw a couple of weeks back was significantly different.

There are mics on almost every ABC News desk, including the new NSW one.

Thanks for the screenshot. Looks like they’ll use the glass backdrop a bit more than in previous years? Would hope the atrium graphic we saw the other day is the new background loop.

Could also work in breaking coverage if talent needs to get on air quickly.

True, they could be used for that purpose. But every other news studio (apart from ABC it seems) just seem to use two lapel mics on a presenter, one as a backup. Looks a lot better than those things poking out of the desk!

And all of those other news studios in Australia aren’t running 24 hours 7 days a week though

Neither is ABC News Channel!

I’d suggest Martin Place is probably the most intensively used news studio in the country (or a Sky studio though I’m not familiar with them).

In almost continuous use from 5:30am to after 10pm at the moment once you include updates etc shot between the afternoon/evening programs.

Prefer to see a desk mic on a rare wide shot than mics all over a presenter’s lapel

can see design cues from the Victorian set. Presume there’s another screen for presenters to sit in front of that faces the big atrium window

That’s the last shot, it’s behind the desk

Very nice.

Hopefully the lighting will be better than before.
