ABC News (Channel)

The plan AFAIK was they were always going to broadcast one block of the NC (mornings) from Paramatta - all other programs will come from Ultimo (or Melbourne and Perth for weekday evenings shifts).

Thank you.

So what’s happened to the old NSW studio at Ultimo? It’s much nicer than the News Channel set you’d think they’d move the news channel over to that studio.

Still there at the moment - was used a few weeks ago as a backup for when they were having issues with the NC studio.

Ruby Cornish’s name has also been removed from “ABC News at Noon Weekends” on Iview

So basically the ABC have 4 studios allocated for news content in Sydney?

The News Channel Studio
The Former Sydney News Studio
The 7.30 Stufio
And now the new Parramatta Studio

This is beyond a waste of tax payers money. FFS :man_facepalming:

Thank you for making my point simple. That’s what I was basically trying to ask haha

Well it can be assumed the old NSW set will be removed at some point. And parramatta was funded through the sale of property - not public funds.

But the ABC still own two sites yes? Ultimo and Parramatta?

Not 100% sure about Paramatta, but they still own Ultimo - they are, however, leasing out empty space to help with the costs. They also lease out empty space at their Adelaide building, which they will be vacating within the next few years as well.

That’s just spin though, in reality they’ve sorta half moved across the city but are still running two sites in Sydney.

You’d be surprised how many studios exist in the world that are basically abandoned - doors closed and forgotten about, while the rest of the facility continues operating. Plenty of them taxpayer funded. I have no doubt the ABC will eventually replace the sets in their under-utilised Sydney TV studios and use them for other programs.

Parramatta’s space is leased from the building owners. Leasing out of some floors at Ultimo is supposed to cover the opex for Parramatta.

You’ve got to remember, even well before Parramatta came online, Ultimo had a lot of under-utilised office space. So many of their Sydney staff work from home since that pandemic, and being a national organisation means most meetings and collaboration take place on Teams anyway. Ultimo is a very cool building, but the 80’s/90’s style of operating when that building opened isn’t the reality now.

It was from flogging off Gore Hill.

I at least hope Dan Bouchier is paying for all his own jewels! haha
