He fits the ABC brand perfectly. They should offer him a permanent gig.
Alex Thomas certainly walked into a news storm today! Expecting a sedate exercise in reading the ABC news every half-hour, he was catapulted into a rolling 6 hour marathon. However he had the steady hands of Kathryn Robinson to support him. They did very well together as I presume they have never read the news together before (or even met?). And it was a lot more than just reading news!
The ABC always seems to turn to Kath as first choice when a crisis occurs, even though she is, at the moment, working 5 days a week for all of June. After 10 years of working for the ABC, I am pleased that she is rightly recognized as one of their very best journalists ⌠intelligent and classy, and a safe pair of hands in a crisis.
The ABC has once again demonstrated that it is a superior news operation with itâs wealth of world-wide journalists and local resources, the likes of John Lyons, John Barron, etc.. It is in situations like this that the News Channel comes into itâs own.
I would say today would have been his biggest news event. He handled it well. The ABC needs to get him on the books permanently.
ABC News apologises over on-air AFL blunder
An ABC News presenter has been forced to apologise to viewers after the program aired the wrong story.
Presenter Ruby Cornish addressed viewers after a series of sports stories aired including an AFL report âfrom a week agoâ on Thursday night.
Cornish initially read a headline in relation to a Collingwood member who was banned for five years over a âhighly inappropriate and threatening text messageâ aimed at the embattled Carlton coach Michael Voss.
She revealed that an AFL investigation found a member of a rival club was behind the vile threat.
However, the program then aired a video package from last week regarding Gold Coast Suns coach Damien Hardwick taking aim at the AFL in the wake of a league-wide change to umpire contact.
As the bulletin came to an end, Cornish swiftly addressed viewers at home who may have been left baffled by the mistake.
God who cares
typical news dot com making a headline out of nothing, anything to bash the ABC
Yep, donât need it filling up this place.
Fiona Willan presenting tonight.
Canberra bulletin being shown on the news channel at 7pm for some reason.
Thereâs a new synthetic news theme in use on the News Channel today. Yet to be heard if itâll be on the 7 pm news.
It sounds like a remix for Triple J. I donât like it.
Was also used on the 9am bulletin. I donât mind it.
Oh this is very good, what they shouldâve launched with last year. A welcome return (perhaps) to the NC having a more tecnho theme than the 7pm - but it wouldnât hate it if the 7pm got it as well!
I really like it. Agree that this is what they should have launched with.
That 12PM version sounds fantastic.
The cut to the presenter is so much better with the more prominent sting.
This new version sounds awesome. Finally theyâve fixed up the issue with the last sting - itâs half a beat behind on the original version and I canât unhear it. This is much cleaner.
donât mind it all!
a massive leap to what we were originally served with
The contrast between mornings and midday/afternoon is so stark.
The whole channel (mainly) should be coming from that new Sydney studio.
