I’m going to take a guess that they are entitled to take time off or if they are casual’s, refuse shifts that are offered to them.
I would also assume they have time off if they are working over summer to fill in in for others. For example, Kathryn is on Weekend Breakfast next weekend.
Yes, of course they can take time off, it’s just the timing? And Lorna still worked through, albeit one shift/week. Kath does take single weeks off which always coincide with the NSW school holidays, presumably to be with her kids… so, 3 weeks already this year. The jury is still out on whether Kath is casual or full-time … her LinkedIn profile, which has been updated, still states that she is a full-time employee of the ABC. She certainly puts in enough hours!
However, you may be right, as I didn’t consider possible work over Summer. Kath co-hosting Weekend Breakfast next weekend is interesting … I assume it’s Johanna who is missing, as it appears that Johanna is heavily pregnant again, and will be missing for at least 6 months of next year, and of course Kath is the obvious replacement. Not only is Kath outstanding in that role, but she is also a steady and constraining influence on Fauziah.
Late last year, with Kath and Fauziah co-hosting, Fauziah couldn’t resist the sexual innuendo associated with a story about a loose man-hole cover at the Adelaide(?) GP causing the race to stop. She couldn’t contain her smirk, and continually referred to it as just a “man-hole”. Every time this story surfaced, knowing that Fauziah had been given a holiday for similar indiscretions, Kath rescued her by emphasising that it was a man-hole COVER! Some people are slow learners!

Well that didn’t eventuate? I also checked with Freeview Australia, and they too had Kath and Johanna co-hosting for 7th and 8th of December. Very strange??
It’s becoming a problem now. There’s no point posting future presenter schedules because they’re mostly always wrong.

All confirmed this morning! Fauziah is off for a few weeks Christmas leave, then Johanna is taking maternity leave, so they wont be back together until well into the second half of next year. Clearly Kath will be the co-host from now on starting next weekend. Which is not to say that she wont be engaged with other duties as in 2023 when she was also News Reading, and variously hosting The Business and The Drum.

The usual chaos on the NC. Melissa not only filled in for Dan yesterday and today as predicted, she also filled in for Gemma on Tuesday and Wednesday this week on Mornings. Now the Weekend Breakfast roster appears to be changed from Johanna and Kathryn for this coming Weekend Breakfast … changed suddenly to Johanna and Melissa? I couldn’t think of a more awkward combination if that eventuates!
Probably has something to do with Kathryn now doing Mornings on ABC Sydney next week.
Ah … that would explain it, well picked! Clearly Gemma has finished for the year on NC Mornings, so is Kath down to replace her, or are you talking about Kath doing Sydney Radio? Still think they are lining Kath up for Weekend Breakfast at some stage.

Quite a lot of super glitches during the 6PM bulletin.
Kath didn’t front up for Sydney Radio this morning, as she is apparently “crook”? Something very suspicious here as Kath has the constitution of an ox, and should be well rested, having presented on only 6 occasions in the last 8 weeks!
As we know, she is incredibly versatile and I’m sure a 2.5 hour radio show wouldn’t have fazed her. Maybe she is just sick of being the ABC’s Girl Friday, in this instance, being pulled into replace the sacked Sarah MacDonald at the last minute, when initially she was down to replace Fauziah and presumably then Johanna on Weekend Breakfast, a program she is much more comfortable with?
Kath with her wonderfully modulated voice and warm disposition, can present anything well, be it radio or tv, but I get the feeling that she is sick of being stuffed around by some of the ABC staffing bungles.
I’m assuming this is satire? Otherwise, quite a lot of supposition…
The two NYE fireworks will also be simulcast live on this channel.
