I wonder why the weather graphic is only on the news channel and not on the main channel during News Breakfast?

Thanks for the update, always good to know what is planned for the coming week. In addition, as you noted in one of your earlier posts, Ruby appears to have “permanently” taken over the weekend slots, although Lorna did them last week. I think this was only because Ruby had been over-worked the weekend before. On Saturday(9/11), Ruby was forced to read the news all day … starting at 11.00am and finishing at 11.30pm, albeit with half-hour breaks. Mariam Saab didn’t turn up for her regular shift on Saturday night, and clearly the ABC couldn’t find another replacement?

Ruby is a very capable newsreader, and the ABC clearly see the potential in her.

IIRC her absence was already noted in the advance guides prior to this - could be that she already had leave booked - very surprised they couldn’t find someone who would dash into the studio at the last minute for a shot on the desk.

Yes the ABC does have a lot of depth in the talent available to them.

Someone must’ve hit the buttons in the wrong order… issues with the intro sequence at the start of today’s 7pm bulletin, also causing the music to play twice in the background haha

Do the boffins at the ABC read this forum? After all the discussion about 6 weeks ago concerning the number of hours chalked up by NC presenters, suddenly Kath and Lorna went missing! Kath for about a month, although she is now back just doing Th/Fri Mornings, and Lorna has been pared back to one shift/week, apart from having to help the overworked Ruby for one weekend.

Did the ABC hierarchy suddenly realise who was doing the heavy lifting for a lot of the year and quickly rectified the situation. If not, it’ a mighty big coincidence, particularly over this period the NC daytime presenters have mostly worked their allocated slots. With the end of the year rapidly looming, perhaps they are desperate to secure their roles for next year by not absenting themselves?

I’m going to take a guess that they are entitled to take time off or if they are casual’s, refuse shifts that are offered to them.

I would also assume they have time off if they are working over summer to fill in in for others. For example, Kathryn is on Weekend Breakfast next weekend.

Yes, of course they can take time off, it’s just the timing? And Lorna still worked through, albeit one shift/week. Kath does take single weeks off which always coincide with the NSW school holidays, presumably to be with her kids… so, 3 weeks already this year. The jury is still out on whether Kath is casual or full-time … her LinkedIn profile, which has been updated, still states that she is a full-time employee of the ABC. She certainly puts in enough hours!

However, you may be right, as I didn’t consider possible work over Summer. Kath co-hosting Weekend Breakfast next weekend is interesting … I assume it’s Johanna who is missing, as it appears that Johanna is heavily pregnant again, and will be missing for at least 6 months of next year, and of course Kath is the obvious replacement. Not only is Kath outstanding in that role, but she is also a steady and constraining influence on Fauziah.

Late last year, with Kath and Fauziah co-hosting, Fauziah couldn’t resist the sexual innuendo associated with a story about a loose man-hole cover at the Adelaide(?) GP causing the race to stop. She couldn’t contain her smirk, and continually referred to it as just a “man-hole”. Every time this story surfaced, knowing that Fauziah had been given a holiday for similar indiscretions, Kath rescued her by emphasising that it was a man-hole COVER! Some people are slow learners!

Nope - Kath and Joannah next weekend
