Yes, Ruby has had plenty of practice this year in Dan’s phantom weekend slots, in fact 14 weekends worth so far … according to my eccentric tally! Ruby is fine … she is very articulate and intelligent and has a good screen presence, and the ABC needs to blood a few more younger women (and men!), particularly on the NC. I think she is better than Gemma who tends to get flustered if something goes wrong.
The weekend slot is a safe place to develop new talent as it is not continuous like the 3 or 4 hour weekday sessions. It just involves providing half-hour bulletins at the beginning of each hour, but it is monotonous and long … 11am - 5pm. And it is not the sort of gig most presenters with children would want … giving up your whole weekend!
If a crisis occurs, then the ABC will wheel in the big guns …with the Trump shooting on 14/7, Kath and John Barron were brought in to deal with the aftermath on the Sunday after Ruby had presented on the Saturday.
Seems like a high chance - Michael has signalled that he has considered stepping down, and Glenday is currently filling in, when they could’ve used someone like Emma Rebellato to fill in.
At the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month, we pause to reflect and honour the sacrifice of those who served our nation. The National Remembrance Day Service from the Australian War Memorial in Canberra
No, Kath didn’t present on Friday morning … Gemma did!
Just for the record, this past week the NC was back to the usual end of week chaos.
Wed: Ruby for Ros in Afternoon
Thu : Ruby for Dan in Morning
Fri : Gemma for Dan in Morning
Sat/Sun : Melissa for Dan/Ruby?
I think the previous week was an aberration with Dan returning to Th/Fri mornings. I would really like to know what is going on with Dan. Clearly the ABC has a dearth of suitable male presenters and would like to promote him, if only because he ticks a couple of diversity boxes! But for some reason he doesn’t seem keen to participate?
News Channel will be breaking away from Question Time for just over 15 minutes at 2:28pm this afternoon for coverage of the RBA’s decision on interest rates - coverage will be hosted by Jane Norman.
The full Question Time broadcast will be shown on ABC-TV (Delayed outside of AEDT states)
Some presenter changes this week - This is according to the EPG, which doesn’t always get everything right. I’ll update this with the proper presenters when the bulletins occur.
Thursday 7/10
Mornings: Joe O’Brien is filling in for Dan Bourchier
Afternoons: Gemma Veness is filling in Ros Childs
Evenings: Ros Childs is filling in for Joe O’Brien
Friday 8/10
Mornings: Joe O’Brien is filling in for Dan Bourchier
Afternoons: Dan Bourchier is filling in Ros Childs
Evenings: Melissa Mackay is filling in for Joe O’Brien
Thursday seems a little odd that the regular presenters are in different slots?
