ABC New Year's Eve Coverage

This excuse for a newspaper is a disgrace, even worse than the News Corp garbage. Does anyone read the Daily Fail? So Concetta chatting to old people in a home was too ‘woke’.

Let’s be honest though. Are they wrong? Not really. Everything they’ve said has actually happened.

Lack of family content, educational nonsense, extremely niche music and self promotion.

What’s garbage about the article though? Everything they mentioned did happen.

And of course can’t forget about News Corp

IMO it’s all garbage.

Again though, forget the owners of the article for a second, they aren’t actually wrong. The coverage IS all of those things.

What’s garbage?

The Daily Fail article.

How is it garbage? Are you suggesting what they’ve written didn’t happen?

To each their own- I know for some people this coverage is quite enjoyable and the presenters/performances tend to align well with their worldview- for others however it’s quite understandable that this coverage is rather alienating (to put it one way).

Look @David I don’t want to argue or debate, I’m enjoying the ABC show even though I don’t like this rapper guy but Bernard Fanning and co. were great. So Happy New Year David.

There’s nothing to argue or debate. Fact is fact. Forget who’s written it for a second, what they have said did happen. The article is factually correct whether you like the coverage or not doesn’t matter in this instance.

Suggestion for those who don’t like what the ABC is doing, turn it off, don’t watch, it’s simple.

I think your hatred of news corp is causing you to miss the whole point.

Forget your opinion of the coverage. No one is saying you don’t have to like it or love it.

The fact is what those articles have said happened in the coverage, did in fact happen.

Lack of family content, niche music, educational material and self promotion.

You don’t have to like it but it did happen. You can argue all you like but it won’t change anything. The article is factually correct.

Get your hand off it, the article was written before the broadcast started.

So? It doesn’t make what they’ve written untrue.

Not surprising, given 12am is the pinnacle of the evening and naturally you want the biggest act outside of the fireworks seen by the largest audience (just before the aforementioned occurs). I’m sure Williams’ team would too and not to mention the no doubt hefty appearance fee, if the 2022 AFL GF is anything to go by, unless it was cheaper or nil as part of his film/the studio’s theatrical distribution and marketing (Roadshow).

I don’t think there would be as much of an issue if one of the commercial networks also had the rights to the fireworks and could wrap their own performances and coverage around it (that way people can pick the coverage that suits their tastes better)- with the ABC being the exclusive rights holder though it could be argued there is a higher expectation to deliver a product with broad appeal.

Don’t get me wrong, the product they have delivered tonight is decent quality, but I can see how for many people it would not be to their taste.

I also think there’s a missed opportunity for the ABC after midnight in that the coverage ends rather abruptly at 12:17am. Would be nice to see a program that showcases the Adelaide midnight fireworks (at 12:30am AEDT) and Brisbane fireworks at 1:00am AEDT before going into rage. Would give things a bit more of a national flavour rather than being Sydney-centric. Maybe even cut into rage to show the Perth Fireworks at 3:00am AEDT as well.

Concetta Caristo appearing again (in place of Charlie Pickering) because???

She’s just there to react to whatever Zan Rowe says.

Would be nice, and more of a national celebration - my understanding is that in the pass (not sure if this is still the case), is that the City of Sydney helps fund the actual broadcast of the fireworks, so might come down to if other councils are willing to help contribute funding.

As the official broadcast partner, the network received $218,000 from the City of Sydney. The payment is for filming the fireworks, not for the broadcast.

They seem to be taking it in turns - at some points it’s been all three, sometimes it’s Zan and Charlie, and other time’s it’s just Concetta

To be honest, given some of her banter earlier, that is probably for the best

Concetta is the complete opposite of a polished presenter. A really hard watch.
