ABC New Year's Eve Coverage

Who is Concetta Caristo and why is she appearing in every segment?

Concetta Caristo - let’s see how many times she giggles, when she is co-hosting. I’ve counted 18 times already. It’s annoying.

And already mentioning: do elders listen to Triple J?

One of the presenters of Triple J’s Breakfast program

I get the vibe from some of the graphics that the Triple J team are playing some sort of role in the production - the graphics remind me of their new look.

Okay but why is she appearing in every segment?

Also, remember when the 9pm fireworks were for kids, and they’d show stuff aimed at kids?

Now we have random crap with Concetta Caristo in it and a hip-hop/rap performance.

Seriously time for another broadcaster.

Bring back Jimmy Hoots, and an appearance by Bluey etc, for the pre-9pm Kids Fireworks.

Not sure, but I get the vibe that perhaps Triple J are playing some sort of role in the production this year, so perhaps that’s why she’s involved.

Yep - there is a reason there are earlier fireworks after all

Did anyone else feel that there was a lacklustre intro to the early fireworks?

I looked away for a few seconds and didn’t even realised they started.

I am within hearing and seeing sight of the fireworks and saw that it was 20 seconds past and thought ā€œshouldn’t it have started now?ā€

I do remember Ten and Nine’s NYE fondly.

Recall the likes of ā€˜Andrew G’, Kim Watkins, Fuzzy Agolley and Natalie Bassingthwaighte to name some hosting in the 2000s.

(From shows Idol, 9am, Video Hits and Neighbours/Rogue Traders/SYTYCD.

Though I still think the ABC do a decent job. They do it their way and arguably cater for some of their audience (I say some as NYE is largely more broad and reflected by the ā€˜major event’ ratings - so there’d be plenty who are new or infrequent and younger viewers later tonight).

It’s celebrating 50 years of JJJ. As someone older than most on here I’m enjoying so far. Please City of Sydney keep this away from ALL commercial channels. And as a Melbourne resident and lover I have to admit the 9pm fireworks are probably better than Melbourne’s midnight ones. Melbourne’s just doesn’t have the same setting as Sydney. So now all you complainers, just enjoy and Happy New Year.

From the bits I’ve seen (so admit I haven’t been following along closely) this feels like Triple J for TV.

It serves that audience quite well and I’m sure they will find the coverage quite enjoyable- however I feel they’ve missed the mark when it comes to broader appeal (seems to be little in the way of anything for families).

The whole celebrating Triple J thing comes across as a tad self-indulgent too.

Has Robbie Williams performed yet?

I think he’s scheduled for 11:45pm.
