ABC New Year's Eve Coverage

Yes, I remember the early days when the ABC first gained the rights. Everyone was a critic.

Yeah. I watched my recording yesterday and I agree it was boring compared to previous years. They also had a lot of filler in between which was not great.

Perhaps the filler needs to be a fast moving packages of events of the past year than the musicians have a chat about the vibe of their music.

That extended preview of Muster Dogs before the 9pm fireworks was also a waste of time. I really dont think the audience that was tuning in for the fireworks would be interested in that stuff. Perhaps they should have run some rage music videos featuring the year’s biggest dance hits to get people into a party mood.

100% this. I’m not normally one to complain about ABC’s coverage, but such odd choices this year with the omission of any kind of children’s content in the lead up to the 9pm fireworks replaced with the Muster Dogs stuff, and so many depressing melancholy song choices on a night where more uplifting and party songs would have suited so much better. Usually they do a fine job, but I switched off half way through this year which I’ve never done before.

Enjoyed ABC New Year’s Eve as usual but as usual there were a couple of performers I could have done without. Didn’t like Genesis Owusu, Angie McMahon (whilst I agree with her political statement, there’s a place for it, not a New Year’s Eve concert)
and could have done without Confidence Man!

Didn’t really notice this!

Definitely NOT. That would be a major turnoff for me.

I thought Mark and Eva Seymour, Jessica Mauboy (maybe a little less). Harry Connick Jnr and as stated previously Casey (the Queen of New Year’s Eve), not forgetting the backing band and backing singers all did a sterling job.

Good to see them get Australia’s American owned media company in a spin! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Outside of Casey and Jess most of the night was like this. ‘Nothing Compares to You’ immediately springs to mind.

They were impressive and it’s great having a live orchestra there too. I wouldn’t have minded hearing the back up singers do one or two somgs on their own.

I agree with this too. We don’t need to have political activisim on a new years eve telecast. Save it for an interview show.

Not one but two packages. It was better without the same old kid’s skit at the start, but Muster Dogs was irrelevant to the telecast.

I like your idea of a ‘year that was’ package. They could have also had Concetta roving around chatting with the crowds to fill in the time. Her package about the fireworks at the start was alright.

Why are we hearing about this in May? Not even half way through the year!

It was included in ABC’s 10 New content announcements press release today, maybe because 10 sounds better than 9? Lol

I won’t go that far but I do wish someone else can have a go now. It’s been with the ABC for a long time. Time for a refresh.
