They’re probably not even watching and just every time they channel surf and check they can’t see him!
Still better than Paul Murray in his unbuttoned pajamas atop the Intercontinental Hotel on Sky News.
Don’t worry, chances are he’ll be gone at midnight and they won’t be able to afford to bring him down again if their coverage ceases.
Colin Hay’s still got it!
Surely news.com should be thrilled there was less Charlie Pickering? He’s hardly a pin-up for the RW brigade.
Coverage well received on Twitter. Nice to have a concert before the Midnight fireworks
It is great.
This is the first year in a long time that I haven’t been able to get out on Sydney Harbour. and watched the coverage live. Having some music you recognise and love is perfect for a New Yera’s Eve. This should be part of the annual event.
Happy New Year Media Spy!
They didn’t need the countdown clock remaining on screen on 00:00:00 during the whole fireworks.
Happy New Year!
Don’t think we’ll have many critising tonights coverage. Probably the best NYE coverage in a very long time.
Coverage ended abruptly after the last firework was fired
They probably could have had Charlie saying goodbye then rather than yet another cross promotion promo or they could have gone into the pre-recorded auld lang syne rather than wait after that.
Some nutjobs already after Charlie Pickering’s head after his slip of the tongue to say “kill” which he quickly corrected to “kiss”. But never let that get in the way of rabid ABC haters… why are they even watching anyway?

Really unfortunate gaffe after a good NYE show. I thought that was going to cause trouble. Watch it turn into the first controversy of 2018 now.
I’m sure news.com are already bashing the keyboards to publish it… then The Daily Telegraph, The Australian, Sky etc will all parrot it …
on news.com.au:
An apology:

There is nothing in that at all. Clearly not intentional, but sadly after a pretty solid broadcast, it will probably be in the tabloids come morning. Predictably, some of the responses on Twitter are over-the-top and ridiculous.
As expected from The Daily Telegraph.
HE was the much-hyped host of Sunday night’s NYE coverage on the ABC. But Charlie Pickering spent little time on the screen and ended the telecast with one monumental stuff up.
The ABC almost managed to get through its entire coverage of Sydney’s New Year’s Eve celebrations without any of its usual hosting calamities and technical problems. Almost.
Our billion-dollar babies plainly mean to continue this year in the tradition of the last.
