You mean the annual News Corp website collection of a handful of negative tweets with a handful of pars by a staff writer with nothing better do on NYE and an open comments section with more negativity than absolute zero and anti ABC rants
Think it might be year to year with City of Sydney paying for it.
Doesnât the City of Sydney also have some level of input into the production (which may explain the âSydneyâ watermarks used on the fireworks)?
I believe so, including access to the Lord Mayorâs Party etc.
NEW YEARâS EVE COUNTDOWN
CHARLIE PICKERING TO HOST ABCâS ALL-STAR NEW YEARâS EVE COUNTDOWN
Join our master of ceremonies, Charlie Pickering as he counts down the biggest night of the year with the New Yearâs Eve 2017 broadcast, Countdown Live NYE 2017 on ABC and ABC iview.
Presented from the Sydney Opera House, Charlie takes us through an evening jam packed full of unmissable entertainment from an all-star line-up including Jimmy Barnes, Phil Jamieson, Marcia Hines and Kate Ceberano, with plenty of fun for all-ages, including the Family Fireworks at 9pm, culminating in the world-famous Sydney Midnight Fireworks.
The evening events will commence with a Welcome to Country with Rhoda Roberts AO, followed by The Early Night Show, co-hosted by Hoot the Owl and the one and only Kitty Flanagan. Featuring the Play School band, jugglers, acrobats and a marching band, it promises to be fun for all the family!
Weâll cross to ABC MEâs Grace Koh and Giggle and Hootâs Jimmy Giggle who will be live from Sydneyâs Botanical Gardens. There will be a very special performance from Casey Donovan, we take a look at some hilarious Play School auditions, and some of our younger viewers give us their views on hot topics and what was the âbest-thing-everâ that happened to them in 2017.
At 9pm, the winner of ABC MEâs Design your own Firework competition, 7-year-old Lucia from Adelaide, will set the Sydney sky alight with the Family Fireworks display featuring her own unique firework design.
After the 9pm fireworks, Charlie will take us through a variety of hilarious and heart-warming segments including comedian Sammy J, who will present his unique take on some of the yearâs key stories, and a behind the scenes look at the rehearsals for the biggest concert of the year.
Then itâs time to do yourself a favour and get your groove on when the legendary Molly Meldrum welcomes Australia to Countdown Live, a live concert celebrating the songs of the iconic show Countdown performed by many of our most loved artists.
Audiences can enjoy live; Jimmy Barnes, Phil Jamieson, Colin Hay, Casey Donovan, John Paul Young, Marcia Hines, Kate Ceberano, Ngaiire, Montaigne, Isaiah Firebrace, Mahalia Barnes and Prinnie Stevens. Theyâll be performing the music that is, quintessentially, Australiaâs song book, with a few international classics thrown in for good measure.
At midnight, stand by as Sydney becomes the focus of the world as thousands of fireworks light up Sydney Harbour and we welcome 2018.

Great option for a host. Charlie Pickering will do a good job. The portion between the Family and Midnight Fireworks will be the Countdown
Past hosts since ABC won the rights from longtime broadcaster Channel 9. Ten had a short stint from NYE2006 to NYE 2008 with the first broadcast poorly-recieved
NYE2013 - Lawrence Mooney & Stephanie Brantz
NYE2014 - Julia Zemiro & Toby Truslove
NYE2015 - Eddie Perfect & Ella Hooper
NYE2016 - Jeremy Fernandez & Ella Hooper
No pub quiz this year which is replaced by the Countdown spectacular in between the two fireworks shows.
Ah TenâŚ
A Mad As Hell special would be good tho on NYE.
Mad As Hell special would be good but a Countdown special will be popular
At least one good thing about this yearâs ABC New Yearâs Eve coverage: The Pub Quiz wonât be returning!
âŚand Iâm pretty sure itâs because of Tenâs infamous coverage of NYE 2006/07 (even though most of the complaints were about the show that aired during the ceremonies, IIRC) that the City of Sydney has some level of input into the TV coverage these days including the âSydneyâ watermarks.
That was the best bit. You really have strange likes.
I thought Aaron Chen will be hosting the NYE2017 coverage
ABC should include social media comments such as âHappy New Yearâ and your new year resolutions for 2018 in 280 characters using the #NYEABC hashtag during the show
Looking through Twitter, last year New Yearâs Eve 2016 on ABC in Australia used #NYEABC and Dick Clarkâs New Yearâs Rockinâ Eve with Ryan Seacrest on ABC in the USA used both #NYEABC and #ABCNYE. But maybe using the same hashtag is not an issue due to the time difference?

Looks better than the past 4 years I guess.
What a spectacular voice Marcia Hines still has today.
Edit to add: John Paul Young impressive too.
Coverage is better than the first four years. Who can forget that infamous NYE2013 show. It was as bad as Tenâs NYE2006 show
Itâs good theyâve realised that the many crosses to crowds around the harbour were pointless and boring.
This concert is much better than the âalternativeâ musical performances from a music festival theyâve shown previous years. There should be a concert like this on NYE every year.
