Helen Shield has done some national stuff on local radio DAB whilst cricket is on ABC Sport
Joel Rheinberger has been doing national drive the past few weeks.
I hear NSW/ACT are back doing their own night program. Rest of Aus getting Bern Young from the Gold Coast.
Are the breakfast shows local to each ABC station or statewide?
Ali Moore covering breakfast in Melbourne, regionals taking Jeremy Lee from ABC South West Victoria (Warrnambool)
Still statewide in Tas this week (John X from Hobart) but I think may change next week. The other local program we have had is The Country Hour which was on last week and this week, I’d imagine it only had the days off with the public holiday days.
It seems to be a combination of both local and some statewide depending on region/state. Some regions of NSW and WA for example, are doing multi-region networking rather than statewide this past week (eg. Sydney has Josh Zepps while Newcastle and a couple of surrounding regions has Kia Handley).
Some other ABC Summer Presenter notes from the past two weeks (too many to keep up with).

From Nine Radio topic:
Kelly Higgins-Devine mentioned the ABC were planning Outside Broadcasts next week looking back at 10 years of the Brisbane floods. However, one suspects this may be on hold now due to the lockdown conditions in Greater Brisbane now in effect until at least Monday evening.
ABC radio presenter Ashley Hall was convicted of selling drugs and sentenced to a 12-month community corrections order at Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court today. The broadcaster would not confirm if Hall had been stood down as a result of his drug conviction.
Sammy J had been getting up to mischief with a letter to the Green Guide and unmasking himself in the process.
Amusingly, from his Wikipedia page:
He performs under the stage name Sammy J, a contraction of his full name, Samuel Jonathan McMillan. The first time he publicly used the stage name was during a performance on Hey Hey It’s Saturday’s "Red Faces’ segment in 1999.
Same name as Sam Mac from Sunrise
I think all the Tasmanian scheduling is now back in place with Leon Compton back again on Statewide Mornings which apparently is now his 11th year since taking over when Tim Cox and Barbara Pongratz moved to Queensland.
Speaking of moving (perfect segue there!) this morning was also the first morning of AM being broadcast from ABC Hobart after Sabra Lane moved to Tasmania over the holidays.
Beccy Cole is the new host of Saturday Night Country. Her first show will be on February 13.
Doesn’t pay very much.
… that’s always been the ABC’s biggest problem … paying the staff too much and the management too little …
ABC Sport Commentary Workshop for Women
Ever dreamed of sitting in a commentary box alongside legends of the game broadcasting to Aussie Rules fans hanging on your every word? Well now is your chance!
The ABC is excited to offer Victoria’s brightest new commentary talents the opportunity to take part in the ABC Sport Aussie Rules Commentary Workshop for Women, to be held at the end of March 2021. We are looking for women who have the passion and drive to become play by play commentators and lead the charge for the next generation.
If you are a successful applicant, you will attend a three-day facilitated workshop in Melbourne and get a practical taste of what it takes to work in the media covering sport. You’ll spend time with the ABC commentary team, including trailblazer Kelli Underwood, along with current AFLW players.
How to apply?
The application process has three steps.
Record yourself (voice only) calling two x five-minute blocks of commentary from an AFLW match over the next two weekends. Have fun with it and be yourself as you describe the action taking place on the field, including the player’s names and field positions.
Record a two minute video of yourself telling us a little bit about you, including your football story and why you want to be an Aussie Rules commentator.

If you have any questions please send us a note via the email address.

Due to ongoing Covid 19 border restriction changes, applicants must live in Victoria. We hope to hold another workshop in the future which will include other states.
Cue outrage from the usual suspects in 3…2…1…
Most outrageous thing is that is limited to Victorian people (although understandable)
Our sports coverage needs more diverse voices - anything that helps promote that is a good thing
And of course there is no male competition/whatever…
Good to see though. We need more women is sports broadcasting.
It’s a good thing. We need more talented commentators in this country, other than just the old boys club getting the gig because they played the game. Should be a yearly thing for both men and women, the game would be much better for it.
