ABC Local Radio

Definitely will look out for them presuming they’ll be located in the start precinct across the road from Australia Fair (I’m running it for the 5th time).

What time was this on and who was hosting/producing it?

This is great news, they’re fortunate to have such a talent working for them. What shows will he be looking after?

He said on Facebook he’d be working on a range of programs. He started on late nights on local radio.

No Queensland state political reporter on the round today as mentioned on ABC radio. Talk about being hard up.

Quentin Hull co-hosted with ABC Gold Coast drive presenter Matt Webber.

Might give it a listen tomorrow night.

Looks like it’s Bill McDonald on ABC Brisbane for breakfast this week.

Bill can read an autocue well enough but get him into a conversation and well, even cabinet makers find they walk away feeling more intelligent.

I’ve heard him do a few stints with Faine, he’s quite good. Will try and catch a bit when I knock off.

Any reason why?

Interesting, she has spent a lot more time not on air than on air lately though.

Another ABC Hobart change, this week Leon Compton has moved to TV News for 6 months until January with his first report airing the other night about Councils. Sarah Gulman (sp?) is filling in on the radio for Statewide Mornings now.

From Radioinfo:

From the Gold Coast to Central West to Great South WA, a tweet has circulated across the ABC’s regional social media accounts announcing the broadcaster’s plans to close its regional radio Twitter accounts by the end of July.

Wouldn’t you keep them open and just make it an unmonitored automatic feed? I personally don’t listen to ABC Melbourne - but I follow their twitter account as I find it a good source of relevant local news.

What a ridiculous decision. These Twitter accounts have thousands of followers and disseminate news and information in real time which is one of ABC’s primary functions. Who cares if it hasn’t got “engagement”.

They acknowledge that nobody will be using broadcast in future years, so they wind back social media presence?

Look at some of their follower numbers, these are not insignificant surely and these are just random regional accounts I’ve looked up in no particular order:

Newcastle people should be outraged. First their ABC station was downgraded from metropolitan to regional status, then they lost a couple of local presenters, and now this.

Many of those regional stations are higher than ABC Darwin (11.7k) and ABC Hobart (15.2k). ABC Gold Coast’s 20.1k is another on the list to be shut down.
